Unhappy Why does the Queen of Mean cared more for her poochie?
Helmsley Leaves Dog $12 Million in Will - AOL News

She left $12M in her will to her dog, and her grandchildren got nothing???

Well, if they were to contest her will, how is the dog going to be able to answer that. Will the dog hire a lawyer?

from what I understand, she has been estranged from her children and grandchildren for many years

they didn't stand by her before, apparently - and she's not going to reward them for it (actually, they're her HUSBAND'S children).

I'm sure she had a very good lawyer to lock the thing up airtight

Well, certainly this would or could be the outrageous news of the day.

No, but her 'estate' will get a lawyer to represent the dog's rights...

Thing is, her grandchildren could contest it, but if it was in her will and she was sound of mind? She pretty much had the right to leave her money to anyone or anything she wished to leave that money to...And the courts will more then likely, will not go against her will anyways.

What she did really isn't that unusual, happens every day in fact...People just don't hear about it unless it's a substancial estate being left to the family pet or some 'charity'.

From what Tris said, it seems that her grandchildren kind of forced her hand, but I doubt that she was of sound mind. I don't think the grandchildren will have much to go on if they ever do contest the will.

also, the idea that these are "her" grandchildren is a bit of a disingenous bit of journalism.

Though LEGALLY they are her grandchildren, they are the children of her husband who were grown when she married him. They are of no real relation to her. These kids also fought tooth and nail to keep Leona out of her husband's estate after he died.

I think they got what they deserved.

If Ali's legal opinion is correct, this could set an amazing precedent for people who want to discriminate against human-animal marriage because animals cannot consent to legal agreements.

If the animal gets a lawyer the problem goes away.

Thanks Ali.

It was her money, to leave to whomever she wished. WHY do so many people think that what grandpa and grandma and mom and dad have is theirs by right?

I spent a couple of hundred bucks on a bracelet a few years ago, and my hubby's sister accused me of 'spending my kids inheritance'!

I figure that their 'inheritance' is whatever the hell I leave them!
Bother not the cat. For they are sneaky and will piss on thy keyboard.
