| Yeah you just have to love how politician after politician gets up and decries the spending for this bridge telling one lie after another regarding the population it will serve. Only 50 people live on the island, it will connect to a small airport.
Yeah 50 people live on Gravina, 14,000 live on Revillagigedo Island. Not to mention the 200,000 passengers who travel through the airport yearly. The truly screwed up thing about this whole debate was the money that was appropriated for the Bridge was money that came from the share of the Highway Trust Fund, money that was already going to be given to Alaska, all Young and Stevens did was earmark it for the Bridge.
Truthfully, I think that the bridge was not needed. At the height it would have needed to been built, it probably would have been closed during bad weather. Nonetheless, somehow when money comes to Alaska, it always seems to go to Anchorage and Fairbanks and seems to miss the rest of the state. I applauded Young and Stevens for earmarking the money, however, the Bridge should have been rethought. How about funding our ferry.......that would save us all the $20 shot to go to the airport.
