I agree lots of people misuse credit. But plenty of people fall on hard times, get laid off, incur huge medical bills, etc and are forced to take on credit.

Others are seduced by the lenders who later try to shaft them.

well, they need to plan better. this isn't a socialist or communist country. if they cant plan better nobody else should have to pick up the pieces. credit card companies have the right to make a profit.

I agree there. But that's a fault of the government allowing companies to shift all our manufacturing jobs overseas. Among other things. And now with $4 gas looming, it's gonna be even tougher to be poor. $60 fill ups piss me off.

Apparently you are as ignorant about political theory as you are about the financing of your own country:

The Tax Foundation - Federal Taxes Paid vs. Federal Spending Received by State, 1981-2005

assuming you live in America and not St Lucia

Why is it the government's fault that companies move low paying jobs overseas?

As oggi observes "this isn't a socialist or communist country".

Companies need to be competitive on a global stage, and they need to make profits for their shareholders, including millions of retired Americans who rely on dividends from their mutual funds.

Using expensive US labor would drive up the cost of living, you're already complaining about the $4 gallon - how about the $50 T shirt and the $3,000 computer!

That's actually very true. And how I justify swiping the Visa and running the demo Bimmer up to 120 mph. But still. When my wife and I were dating 12 years ago, gas was $.69 a gallon and our biggest bill was for long distance. Now long distance is free and gas is insane.

Not just Europe, but Japan and many other countries have been subsidising America's flagrant fuel extravagance for decades.

Can you imagine what the demand for oil would be if it was only $4 a gallon in Europe too??
