| Funny how the header here in the forum says, "Bush signs terror bill in major victory for White House" yet when you go to CNN.COM it doesn't say that at all. And shouldn't it really read "Bush signs terror bill in major victory for Americans" if it were such a good thing???? | |||||||||||||||||||||

| It is a good thing. Anything that helps put those fuckers away is a good thing. Kill em or put em away forever along with all those who fund them and support them. Kill em or put em away. The other good news is it over-rules the Supreme Court. Goodie goodie. Last edited by alias; 10-17-2006 at 08:24 PM. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| The header was misleading since the article didn't have it there at all (unless they modified the website.. didn't think about that..) The other thing is that the header continues to play people against each other by claiming a victory for the white house. That is what I was observing, not the meat of the article. We still have no unity, and the header is contributing to it, in my opinion. Does anyone know how these headers are written by the software that allows CNN's articles to post here? | |||||||||||||||||||||

| CNN called it a win for the White House because of the Supreme Court decision in Hamdi. The President in abiding by the decision wanted legislation from the Congress so that tribunals could be conducted and interrogations could continue. He was firm in his resolve regarding the decision to allow the CIA to maintain the use of certain interrogation techniques, and stated that any legislation that failed to address these issues would be vetoed. The Congress passed the law that the President wanted and today signed, it is a win for the White House. The disunity that you refer to is not the fault of CNN, although it is a major contributor because it parrots the liberal logic in the debates. Instead this disunity is being bred by the so-called opposition party. The Democrats who are out of power, their only game plan is to be against everything that Republicans are in favor. What a novel idea of how to govern. Hey ladies and gentlemen, we don't have a plan of our own, but we won't do it the same way as the Republicans. And the Democrats wonder why they continue to lose elections. Sorry, but at some point, you have to come up with an idea, and see if it succeeds. Saying your against everything of your opponent but not having a plan of your own, basically is saying that you have no ideas at all. dmk Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles -Russell Kirk- | |||||||||||||||||||||

| The signing of this act was the death of habeas corpus. It gives the white house the despotic power to label any American "enemy combatant" simply at a whim and refuse that American his/her rights to due process and habeas corpus. Is it just coincidence that 135 years to the day of this signing, President Ulysses S. Grant suspended habeas corpus? Despite whatever conclusions you might draw from that, it is no coincidence that nearly every instance of an American president suspending habeas corpus, from Grant to the rounding up of Japanese Americans, were considered as days of embarrassment and condemned in the eyes of history and reason. All of them were wrong, and this one will be no exception in the rough and cruel analysis of history. There is no debate on whether or not this act gives the executive this power to arrest and hold you for indefinite terms without the benifit of a trial or representation. The only debate that stems is whether the executive will abuse this power. Which, in all of our history, it shows that they will abuse this power. Lets just hope it wont get to the point of political prisoners. YouTube - Countdown Special Comment: Death of Habeas Corpus: "Your wor "We have nothing to fear but fear itself," Franklin D. Roosevelt once said. Unfortunately it seems as if this fear is quickly catching up with us, and we are quickly becoming that which we set out to destroy.
