As usual, filled with double-speak and nonsense...

Quote:
President Bush said the "sacred institution" of marriage between a man and a woman must be defended against what he called activist court rulings.
A "sacred" institution, invoking clearly religious ideals.
Yet, any religion can make their own opinions and rules on gay marriage. The Catholic church can refuse to acknowledge gay marriage. Another Christian sect can legally perform gay marriage ceremonies.

And the anti-gay side doesn't care. No legislation against it.

It's the GOVERNMENTAL BENEFITS they are up in a tizzy about. Governmental RECOGNITION of gay marriage.

Don't care about religious recognition.
Only focus is on governmental recognition.
And they're worried about the "sacred" institution of marriage.

Rrrriiiiggghhhhttt....

Quote:
The president said the ruling "raises doubts about the institution of marriage."

"I believe marriage is a union between a man and a woman," he said. "I believe it's a sacred institution that is critical to the health of our society and the well-being of families, and it must be defended."

Bush did not say how it must be defended.
Such double-speak and obfuscation when it comes down to one BASE reality.
They don't want the definition of marriage to change to include gay couples.

Gay marriage is legal in Massachusetts.
1) What "doubts about the institution of marriage" are there in Massachusetts?
2) What damage to the "health of our society" have we seen in Massachusetts?
(And Puh-LEAZE! If all you got is your personal prejudice mascarading as "health", don't waste my time with a reply.)
3) What damage to the "well-being of families" have we seen in Massachusetts?
"(Gay marriage) is a debate about whether you think gay people are part of the human condition or just a random fetish."
