Why he would veto such a bill is sickening beyond comprehension.

We have become so much a culture of death that anytime someone sides on the side of life, they are demonized. What ever happened to valuing human life in this country.

The President has supported the alternative legislation proposed, but, of coures instead of compromise, Congress wants an all or nothing. They wind with nothing, and blame it on Bush, yet, had they comprimised, valuable research could begin. But compromise means losing to those in power, and as such, they are the real villians. Playing politics rather than doing their jobs.

Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles

I was lead to believe a smaller amount of stem cells can be gained from a baby's foreskin.

How do people feel about that?

Stem cells can come from anyone. The recent story about stem cell treatments that cured Class 1 diabetics is just an example of what can be done with them. However, it's not necessary to use embryos. The most valuable stem cell treatments and research have all been from adult stem cells. Great things are happening with this research.

Stem cell research is ongoing. Even embryonic stem cell research is ongoing. What these people WANT is for the government to fund the research. They want government to fund research that calls for embryos.

Without thinking about the unintended consequences such as a market in embryos --- trade for profit of embryos, imagine how many desperate people will be deliberately impregnating themselves to harvest embryos.... imagine people in third world countries who are already selling body parts doing this to themselves. Even if you aren't Christian, if you don't value life enough to think this would be a bad thing for humanity, then understand that it's GREED driving the companies that invested in doing this research and simply EXPECT the government taxpayer to foot the bill so they can continue.

Stem cell research is already ongoing. That's fine. Designating taxpayer dollars to use exclusively embryonic stem cells and creating such horrendous cultural problems is a big mistake.

That's an ugly thought. I suppose it all hinges on when you consider life to have begun.

I understand stem cells are a lot more rare in adults. I'm not very clued up on it, so forgive me if my info is out of date.

If it's already underground, I'm sure it will continue regardless of law, like offshore abortion and organ 'farming'. Wouldn't the tax payer be funding legal and monitored research?

Sure, stem cells are so rare everyone on earth has them! The diabetics were cured with stem cells taken from their own blood!

I didn't know that. I thought adults were lucky if they had a few.

Your body is continually producing new cells and sloughing off dead cells that they replace. It's an ongoing process throughout your life.
