Anyone read the book 2012 - The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck? I bought it about a year and a half ago and thought it interesting... just, interesting in the way that stories about UFO's, crop circles, Phi, an intro to Quantum Physics, hallucinogens, and shamanism are all interesting. Oh, and it talks about all of those too.
Look, it's been said before, and will be said again. The winter solstice of 2012 is not the last day we will be celebrating... it's just a day some people may choose to celebrate (especially if you're Wiccan.) It's a like a galactic birthday of sorts. It will come and it will pass.
If you don't believe me, I'll get back to you in just a little over four years about it.

They way the Mayans treated each other you'd almost think the Europeans arriving would be a blessing. |

I can't imagine they were seen as liberators. |

It was the Aztecs that the Spaniards defeated in Mexico, and the Incas in South America. |

It was the Aztecs that the Spaniards defeated in Mexico, and the Incas in South America. | I got my first taste of Mayan life when I visited Cancun in 1990. So much different that Baja California/Tijuana, Mexico.
I visited the ruins at Chichen Itza, and the ball court there, too. Just fascinating.
The charter bus ride between Cancun and Chichen Itza was well worth the time, too. Riding on the way back to Cancun, the people there had TV and VCR's, with wiring protected by thick tubing from the weather elements.

Next time you can get your heart cut out and your head chopped off atop the temple to "get a feel" for authentic Mayan life. (just kidding) |
