Defending the Truth

We all have read about Eliot Spitzer's resignation from office because he had an extra-marital affair.

And we all know so full well of Bill Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky. Yet he stayed in office, even though he was impeached.

I opened my TIME magazine and found a letter writer's response about Spitzer's resignation and how it compared to Bill Clinton.

Go figure, folks. The letter writer is right.

Isn't it curious that at the end of the day, Clinton stayed in office because of his popularity and Spitzer got thrown under the bus for his lack of it? It's little wonder the public has so little regard for elected officials.

I would say that Clinton's crime was not really a crime, because his testimony in the Paula Jones civil suit about Monica was immaterial to the Jones suit, and therefore is not considered to be perjury. But not enough Americans understand the law and how it works, so they just think he committed perjury and that that was a crime. They are mistaken. However, Spitzer's use of a prostitute is a crime from the start. Clinton lied to cover up an affair, and was led by Ann Coulter and other right wing cronies and lawyers, into a carefully laid trap of perjuring himself in his deposition.
