Not bothered: the exception proves the rule (in every case - even in our own government).

See that is how we prevent the top 1% owning more than the bottom 90% like we have here in America.

But whatever makes you feel "free" I suppose

"We"? Who is we...you and the frog in your pocket? I thought you lived 'here in America'.

It would be amusing to see you demonstrate how people are less free when they have a choice in how they spend their money.

Yeah, I live in America. But I am a duel citizen. I have both American and Swedish citizenship. Which is pretty cool because of EU... I can live in any state in America AND any country in Europe. I have many plans... I find myself to be a very lucky man.

As a Swedish citizen I was much more free because everyone in society was treated much more equally. Basic freedoms like speech and religion are secure, although religion is frowned upon (some of the lowest church attendance in the world). As a result you have a society that is very honest because you have nothing to hide behind. Very low crime rates.

As a Swede I'm also more free because my basic human needs were always there as a safety net. Health care, dental, support during school, maternity, retirement etc. Craddle to grave security makes for such a safe and secure society. It makes for such unity and pride in your nation that productivity is high, yet vacations average over TWICE as long as Americans.

More free because the arts are supported and held in high regard. Musicians receive government sponsored practice spaces, artists get cheap studio space, etc etc. As a result music is one of Sweden’s biggest exports.

Priorities are in order. Military spending is low and there is a government budget surplus. What an incredible idea!

It is safe to say I will live there again soon.

Look I can tell you love Sweden, but I'm still going to give you a hard time about it, okay?

Is it luck, or did you just suck up to the Swedish ?

Free speech? You mean like putting that one guy in prison for preaching in his own church the view he read in the Bible that homosexual practice is a sin?
That is not free speech.

But some of the highest suicide rates, according to what I've read.

I am of a parcel with you on that. I think it would be best to guarantee a minimal living to everyone here (but of course we can only contemplate that after our borders are controlled).

Like 'Abba'.
Seriously, I don't agree with the government sponsoring the arts. The "Piss Christ" was probably what got me to that position.
[Strangely enough, my capitalist-leaning husband DOES approve of government sponsoring the arts].

Weren't they the country which programmed all their phones numbers to answer "We Surrender" to Hitler?

I have not heard about that but if it is true I can only commend them on prosecuting hate speech. Link?

Similar to rates found in Alaska. 18 hours of darkness for 6 months out of the year takes a toll on the psyche. No where near the highest rates in the world though. In fact they are comparible to the USA.

Well, they aren't so much sponsored as they are encouraged. They realize it will give young people an outlet (reduce crime) and the product they produce is valuable (big export = $$$$).

Abba, Roxette, Ace of Bass, The Hives, Sahara Hotnights, The Cardigans, Soundtrack of our lives, a huge death metal following (Entombed, Hypocrisy), Yngwie Malmsteen, Europe, International Noise Conspiracy, Refused, The Hellacopters, Eskobar.

I doubt it. Link?
They did allow troops to pass through their country.

hahahahaa.. if i may butt in , it is actually a point that a political candidate in denmark campaigned on. He wanted to replace the military with an answering machine saying"we surrender". Point was that at 5 Million ppl denmark is hardly a military power, so just stop spending money on weapons we aint never gonna use and spend them on other more relevant issues like healthcare, education, arts, etc.

And about the preacher, the arrest was made for inciting hatred, not for having adifferent opinion. Note difference please.

Love for all, Hatred for none

That is awesome! They would have had my vote.
Even though military spending in Scandinavian countries is probably pretty low anyway.

Thanks for sharing.

This is a perfect example of why (and I hope this doesn't happen AGAIN) IF there is another Adolf Hitler type in Europe, the United States will have to come over and save the lilly-white pansy arses of all the small European countries.

So say "Thank You America!" - and DON'T say it in German!
