I agree this is in another sense how the "war on drugs" doesn't make sense. Some of the profit from illegal drugs probably does go to terrorist. Much of the rest goes to all kinds of other unsavory sorts -- from organized criminal gangs to freelance scumbags.

Legalizing and taxing these drugs would cut off their money supply. I'm sure they are quite thankful for strict drug prohibition.

Legalizing, or at least decriminalizing, all drugs would be a positive thing for this country.

I can't express this better than a former police chief has:
The Seattle Times: Opinion: Legalize drugs — all of them

I bet they smoked cigarettes and drank beer before becoming heroine addicts. Addictions all.

Well i've been smokin pot regularly for years.. I've tried cocaine once and i don't intend to again.. nor do i have any urge or craving for any other harder drug.

PN what you are speaking of is a figure that is misleading. No doubt it is true that most heroin addicts started off with pot, but it is a false assumption to think that pot was the CAUSATIVE factor. Pot does not invariably lead to heroin addiction.

Rather it's a step along the road of addiction whose presence or absence would not affect whether you become a crack fiend or not.

Most of my fridns smoke pot, but none i know has ever tried heroin ( and you should know that heroin is just as cheap and readily available here in Pakistan as is hash - proximity of afghnistan and all that).

there is no way i would trust the government to produce my cannabis. i would however love the opportunity to buy the right yearly to produce my own..although when i stop and think about being *privileged* to pay someone for the right to cultivate a plant..im baffled.

If you take just one puff of pot, there is absolutely no question whatsoever that you will become a herion addict and die of an overdose.

What if you eat a pot cookie? I don't smoke, so I won't toke, but I ate a weed cookie once. It was OK. I too think they ought to legalize the weed, but make it a hella crime to get caught DUI or other harmful things like that.

You are doomed. You will become a herion addict for sure and there's nothing anybody can do about it.
