Keep it illegal. Why give young, therefore stupid people easier access to something they can get ripped on then drive down the street and kill someone? Why take a drunk person and stick a pack of reefers in his pocket? Why give yet another opportunity for a child to enter a room and see the folks stoned? Why put more smoke in the air? Why start more paranoia by walking through your work parking lot in the morning and smell reefer? I agree it is gut wrenching to know how much we spend on law enforcement chasing people for 2-4 ounces of smoke but the bad outweighs the good here to me.

fmdog: And they can't do those things on alcohol? Or the numerous prescription medication that's readily available? Maybe if we had a mature attitude towards drugs and spoke it about honestly, rather than _constantly lying_ to kids, we'd have better results

Higher punishments have never led to less drug use.

This is a fact from many studies.

However, legalization has been proven to reduce the death rates from drugs.

Ever since Nixon declared his *WAR ON DRUGS* campaign. Illegal drugs have been at there highest usage rate.

When Canada declared that they'd be increasing the punishment for marijuana use... the little known of drug usage sky rocketed.

If punishment is not an answer . . . why are such harmless drugs having such high punishments?

Somethings never make sense.

Question for you . . .

Does it look like the *War on marijuana* is working?

If anything it adds excitement to the already well publized drug.

For every grow-op busted another will take its place. Why send your tax dollars off to waste. Why not shove that money into EDUCATION agaisnt drug use. Marijuana is pretty much legal. You want it ... you can get it ... and no one will stop you.

Sure there are downsides to drugs ... such as marijuana. However, if you think that marijuana being more *illegal* will change those outcomes... you've got to be crazy.

as a 10 year cannabis addict I have mixed feelings on this subject. I believe that it should be decriminalized but not legalized. There is no other system that we have other than the law for separating out drug use for the elite - and frankly that's where I think it belongs.

Laws designed to protect a person from them-self (victimless crimes) are absurd, especially in a supposed free society. Destroying a marijuana users life by imprisoning them, decimating them financially & socially, creating havoc for their family, and incurring a high financial burden for society seems to be doing far more damage than the act of smoking the drug could ever do. it also fosters a criminal underground that simply would not exist if the stupid weed were legal.
