Good point... It's a shame people do that.

By the way, I frequently post updates about my getting ready to go to war, and how it feels to be leaving my family behind to face death on my blogs. 21 all of the way with no exceptions. We need to cut down on it, especially from a DUI perspective. Statistically how many people are killed by drunk drivers each year?

My cousin is from Italy and he laughs very much at the American drinks here. He says since you are able to drink at a young age in Italy, everyone is responsible and knows when enough is enough. He said here in America all the college students/teens drinking responsibilities are horrible.
I am not surprised. Americans have a strong tendency to do that. Have you seen the Statistics on college campuses in reguard to Binge Drinking? it's appaling. If somebody tells you they are only going to one drink you can be sure that number will increase exponentially by the time the night is over.

I think it's more of a cultural issue along the lines that the adolescents aren't as infatuated with the idea of needing to drink to look cool.
Possibly even compounded by the ideal of wanting to do something that only "grown-ups" are allowed to do in order to appear mature.

I don't know how a society could easily turn that around.
Nancy Reagan talking about not doing drugs or drinking sure doesn't help...

There was a TV show called "30 Days" which takes a person and puts them "in somebody else's shoes" for 30 Days. It was lead by the guy who produced the film "Supersize Me" about McDonald's eating.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0437696/

In one episode, a mother wanted to show her college daughter the dangers of binge drinking by becoming a binge drinker for 30 days. The mother basically started binging drinking alcohol like her daughter.
It didn't work. The daughter remained resolute throughout the time period that she would continue to binge drink even though she saw the effects it had on her mother. She made some pretty callous comments about how she would continue to binge drink regardless of whatever effect it could have on her mother...

The daughter even talked about how it was a regular thing for her to "black out" during binge drinking and not know how she got to whereever she woke up. I couldn't help but wonder if she realized the possibility that she could get raped (or could have already been raped) or injured in an accident during one of her "black outs".

On another level, the show gave the impression that she was in college on her daddy's dime, so I couldn't help but wonder if maybe the parents should have taken a different approach to the problem of the daughter's immaturity.

I think MTV plays a major factor in this...(Real World, Road Rules stuff)

I've yet to seen Supersize Me...I've gotta get that DVD someday because I heard it was really good, and the effects from watching the film can actually effect you psychologically next time you think about eating fast food like McDonalds.

Anyways...who eats McDonalds anymore?? Wendy's all the way!

After Supersize me I hardly ever eat fast food. Before it I was eating it several times a month.

I think the drinking age should be left up to the family to decide. Teens shouldn't be allowed to buy alchohol until they are 18, but parents should be allowed to give it to them before then, as long as no one gets hurt.
