Good point. I think it should be just pot and that's it. If people are going to push for other drugs to be legalized, or all drugs, well too bad..it will never get my support.

Legalizing pot would create more dependent, unproductive people that the government would eventually have to add to its welfare rolls.

Question what you read in the LA Times or the NY Times - remember Jayson Blair. Especially question anything you read that quotes 'anonymous sources.' The mainstream media has an agenda.

Sure, questioning things is good. But here is a Forbes article based around "a founding father of the Reagan Revolution" along with 500 economists alluding to the same findings:

Milton Friedman: Legalize It! - Forbes.com

Basically there would be a 14 billion dollar positive gain from legalizing per year. Imagine if we used that kind of money for our school system or even the food our children eat in schools.

Pot may be a 35 billion dollar a year affair on the black market but legalizing would bring competition and thus bring down the price to a more reasonable level. Other benefits would be taking the power (and riches) away from the dealer and bring back that money spent on overpriced marijuana back into the mainstream economy. In other words; people wouldn't have to spend all their money on pot and could go buy that new car, TV, computer, or what have you. Very good for the economy.
--- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope ---

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

But that's kind of like all the billions of "pomised" dollars from proponents of Lottery, PowerBall and Casinos.

What REALLY happens is a HUGE rise in the number of addicts, pawn shops and crime.

It'd be no different if pot was legalized. All this "promised" money would NOT be put into the public sector. It would be needed to offset the costs of legalizing pot.

This is NOT a win-win situation.

I'm sorry as I lack the knowledge of the negative effects of pot. Some have told me that smoking a joint is like smoking 3 cigarettes..or something along the lines. In that case, does it even more greatly increase the chances of getting lung cancer??

Educate me...I'm not sure.

I don't think a joint, in and of itself, is as harmful as a typical cigarette.

However, despite the best efforts of Hevusa, smoking Pot really has been shown to be a "gateway drug" for most people. Perhaps not all, but certainly most.
