I agree.

I really do not know? I do think all drugs should be decriminalized. My feeling about marijuana is if you can grow in your back yard, a planting pot or what ever go for it if that is what you want to do. Just to compare I can grow members of the nightshade family (tomatoes) and create a poison out of the green parts.

Other issues do present themselves in this situation of intoxicants but as long as the public is not harmed on a physical and or psychological level what is the harm about some Dr., Lawyer, Account, Artist or Blue Collar Worker growing some pot and smoking it on their own time....

Over the years this so called drug war has cost society more than is imaginable. To the point the USA, supposedly the freest nation on Earth, has the largest prison population per capita on Earth. We even beat Soviet Russia on this one. Something is certianly wrong when pride only comes from the government and not the people.

If such a "gateway drug" hypothesis were true, then why aren't there just as many "at least once in a lifetime users" of heroin, or cocaine, or crack, or LSD, or Ecstacy as there are "at least once in a lifetime users" of marijuana?

And, if a drug could supposedly be a "gateway drug," then what was the "gateway drug" that caused anyone to become an "at least once in a lifetime user" of marijuana?

(Simply put, a statistical association is not a causal explanation. And, if a statistical association were to be a causal explanation, then alcohol would have to be more of a "gateway drug" than marijuana...if one considers the "at least once in a lifetime" data concerning alcohol compared with marijuana.)

There are two types of people that have an opinion on marijuana being a gateway drug, those that believe the government brainwashing of D.A.R.E., and those that don't. Unfortunately, the ones that do believe whatever they are told, are the ones that this drug is a gateway for.
You see, I actually know people that thought D.A.R.E. told them the truth. They then tried pot and found that it wasn't as bad as they were told. Since D.A.R.E told people for years and years that pot was just as bad as other drugs, they thought the other harder drugs weren't that bad either. They ended up addicted to hard drugs because of it.
I have lost three friends to overdoses and one of them actually told me this is why he tried harder drugs and got addicted. I am 46 and I have lost more friends to drunk driving than to overdoses, and every friend I have has atleast smoked pot for a period of time. Some no longer do it, but all who do, only smoke weed and do no other drugs, other than alcohol.
All the people that haven't tried pot are in no authoritive position to judge something they actually know nothing about, other than what they have been made to believe. They are doing nothing but adding to the brainwashing of others and possibly helping someone to get addicted to hard drugs, down the line.
I will also say there are those that have an addictive personality. These people are much better off trying pot and not drinking, as long as they have an understanding that other drugs are a horror show.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong. ~Richard Armour

So
Why should we make something that is basically harmless, illegal just because you think it might lead to other things being legalized? This is a free country and people should be able to put what ever they want into their bodies.
