It is ONE indicator of why pot should stay illegal. The (well-intentioned) attempt to make alcohol illegal failed. Keeping pot illegal is working. It means less pot users. And citing 'studies' does not impress me. Studies can be rigged, biased, faked, phony, or all of the above. Less slurred-speech, dependent pot users is a good thing. I'll vote for less slurred-speech alcohol users, too, but not a return to prohibition. The fact that there are slurred-speech alcohol users creates more work for the government to keep them from being a danger to themselves and the rest of society.

Your hypocricy is stunning. You support a drug that has a far more negative and profound affect on society (alcohol) yet you want prohibition of marijuana. Even if you don't realize it the (well intentioned) attempt to make marijuana illegal in America is an utter failure as it is the biggest cash crop we have. Yet your tax dollars are being wasted trying to prevent it. Talk about your failed prohibition...

You are right, studies can be rigged and biased... which is usually the case when you hear about the "reefer madness" type of arguments (usually coming from people who have never smoked pot), like that it is a gateway drug, that it makes you stupid, etc. That is why I posted a link from a study done by the Canadian senate.

And your last sentence of your post is just really desperate. You are really grasping at straws. Was it miller time??

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

Question the source naturally. I feel the Canadian senate is a pretty solid place to start and they recently released a report of what I find to be the truth about marijuana. Once again, it ain't vitamins, but it is certainly far less detrimental to society when compared to alcohol. It is time to offer a safer alternative to booze and give people the personal freedom to decide for themselves. The prohibition is an utter failure.

Pot is simply a gateway drug to other drugs, my son started on pot and ended up doing everything. 4 rehabs later and more money than I would like to remember he is now clean, doesnt even smoke or drink anymore and no he didnt find jesus.
All I can say is that anyone who advocates the use of pot indirectly advocates the use of drugs, period.
I would not wish my experience on anyone, I am still paying for it and will do for the rest of my life.
My sons first reality was when his 18 year old girlfriend died and his second reality was when he got arrested. he now has a criminal record.
It all started with pot!

Thanks for sharing your experience... I have always stated that pot is a gateway drug. My little brother in Montana is a prime example of this as well.

It sounds like your son made the wrong choices, my father died from prescription drugs including black beauties (speed) 6 months later his doctor died also from the same, my dad was dead set against "pot" it was from hell. I wish he would have smoked pot, he would still be here, I seen where he was headed but the propaganda around pot, forget it!

First of all, IC, I am very very sorry for what happened to your dad.

But I do have to wonder, how that really fits in the argument for the legalization of pot.

(Though I am for just such a legal decision to be made)

But the argument you posit, if brought down to a very elementary level to see the reasoning to it, would be like this...

My neighbor wore his winter coat, but went out and fell on the ice and broke his neck.

I will go out without my winter coat, but then I catch pneumonia.

I really don't think you can call it a "safer alternative to booze..." Those who are going to do pot are ALSO going to be into booze - or at least they're very likely to be doing BOTH. And isn't that what's called synergism? Isn't that alone extremely dangerous?
