as you said we cannot prove or disprove the existance of god which is the same as not being able to prove if the sun orbited the earth several hundred years ago. you may be right like descates was but he could equally not have claimed it as a fact until he had proved it. just like he could not have claimed as fact that this was due to whirl pools in space as he thought as this one turned out not to be true.
in answer a fact is a positive statement that can be proved. eg toast is stronger than bread.
a belief in god is a normative statement eg i like toast
because a positive statement cannot be proved does not as you claim, mean that no one can have a normative opinion on it. it means it is not yet a fact that anyone can claim to KNOW without being a liar. | Once again, you bring up great points, but grossly miss my argument. My argument is that if you claim that you know God to exist as a fact, you are not being honest. Equally, if you claim that you know God to not exist, you are not being honest. Also, it is possible that God could be proven to be fact. If God does exist he could open the sky and announce, "I am God." I am not claiming that will happen, I am just saying that it is a theoretical possibility. Point being, it is not a statement that is impossible to prove. It is only impossible to prove with our current understanding.
