Curious George = Obama in 08?

Group protests Cobb bar, calls Obama T-shirts racist | ajc.com

I'm :::ahem::: proud to be a Georgian.

I have to supprt this guy's right to make this statement. But his "explanation" didn't help his "it ain't racist" stance.

He said he noted physical similarities between the Democratic frontrunner and the cartoon monkey while watching a Curious George movie with his grandchildren.

Just damn. Why didn't he just say "they all look like monkeys to me" and cut the bullshit. I'd respect him more.

In regards to the T-shirts causing all the controversy, the character is not Curious George, although there may be simularities. I made the shirts and there was no racial maliciousness intended. It is a humourous comparion of Obama to a cute animal. Why is it that George Bush can get compared to Alfred E. Newman, as well as a monkey, in the past and it pass by everyone as funny, but no, since it a Afro-American, oh no, it is racial. I have to say, I find it reprehensible that people have to continously cause this kind of uproar over things. It is ok for every comedian and cartoonist as well as talkshow host in the country to make fun of a white man in every shape form and fashion, but let someone stop and compare the likeness of a person and a cute little monkey, it is all out overnight war. Well, this is my opinion, and as the person who made the shirts, I had no intention to have him to publically be compared to George, and there was no idea that people would cause such a outrageous controversy over them. So any way, I feel that the protest and upset people have to move on and find something else to be upset about because 100,000 people have died recently in one place, at one time in this world, and I think they can find a lot better things to waste their energy on. Thanks for your time, shirtdude@live.com

Wrong place and time for the rant. No one here has really shown much anger. I actually defended the guy's right to make his statement. But from a cultural point of view, that shirt is racist. There's really no way around it. Isn't Alfred E Newman a white guy on Mad magazine. Comparing Bush to another white human male cartoon character doesn't really come across as the same as Obama and a monkey. Cute or not.

Curious George publisher mulls legal action over Obama shirt - BostonHerald.com

And that character IS curious George for all intents and purposes. Good luck in court.

I think that is Data not Riker.

You might be right. The face looks a little whiter, and no doubt that Data does not have any facial hair.

Riker, as a commander, would be wearing a red uniform. Data, as science officer, would wear a gold uniform.
