Meanwhile the broken US health care system and its reliance on 'market forces' is not only failing 47m uninsured Americans, it's also strangling many major US corporations like GM and United Airlines

Actually that's a myth... Without government oversight, there will be more high quality products, at cheaper prices. It will be because of competition.
Like oil? Right now the speculators in commodities have driven the prices beyond where even the kooks thought they would go. And the reason? The fact that the Enron Loophole allows this "dark" market to exist, completely unregulated. That's right, it is because there is no regulation or oversight, the huge companies can get away with this, and have the largest profits on record.

That's what the opposite of the free market will get you, corruption.
Regarding the Aveo, I first heard about it two months ago. For a big guy like me, I didn't really consider buying this tuna can because it is too small for me.

Oh yeah, it gets great gas mileage. But about four weeks ago, I decided I wanted to buy a Chevy Impala instead, which I did two weeks ago today.

It is, uh, nice to see Chevy try and sell the Aveo for those who are deeply concerned about gas prices. But the price is slowing starting to come down. How much, I wish I knew.

But perhaps with Chevy selling the Aveo, that's a gimmick.

Now, who has bought a new car and received guarantees of paying $2.99 p/g for gas?

As for Walmart, I don't care where I shop: Walmart or Target. There's no Walmart big box stores here in San Diego, although the communities south of San Diego have been trying to get one.

As for the third line, I rather drive a Chevy Impala than a Mercedes-Benz.

Chevy sells the Aveo because they can't economically build cars that small in the U.S. It started with the Chevrolet Sprint which they imported from Japan. Which was actually after GM started selling imports as their own with the Geo brand.

I'm glad you bought the Impala, I think it's one of the few cars left that are built in the U.S. The U.S. auto industry is suffering because of poor planning for this inevitable gas price level.

I am glad I bought the Impala, too. It is pre-owned, used as a fleet rental vehicle. It had just over 32,000 miles on it when I bought it. I checked it out on CARFAX used car VIN number search, auto history check, vehicle history reports, and it had a spotless record.

I compared that with two other Impalas. One was involved in an accident, even though it is a 2008 model, and has 11,000 fewer miles. Another Impala is a 2006 model, but it went through four different owners. That raised a red flag.

I look forward to caring for my new purchase. My friends and family are really impressed with how my car looks.

I guess no domestic car manufacturer like the big three can ever produce a gas-saving car without the help of the Asian car manufacturers.

I watched the NASCAR race over the weekend, and I thought that the Ford Fusion is a small car. The 2-door Impalas used on the track are bigger.

Look at the Wikipedia info on the Fusion, made in Mexico.

Ron Paul followers pose danger for McCain in West - Yahoo! News

How out of touch is the McCain camp?

Quote:
The McCain campaign says they expect many [Ron] Paul voters to come home to the GOP before Nov. 4.

"At the end of the day, Republicans are going to vote for John McCain. He's a Western candidate who understands water issues, land issues. He's a fiscal conservative," said Rick Gorka, a campaign spokesman. "His message is appealing to a broad spectrum of voters."

McCain's organization so entrenched in the "two party, us-versus-them" mentality that they just don't get it. It's not as simple as "Republicans will vote for McCain because he's Republican"...

Quote:

In interviews with a dozen Paul voters from around the West, anti-administration sentiment rang loudest. Most were newly active in politics but had been regular Republican voters. They said their activism began with opposition to the Bush administration's foreign policy.

As newcomers, they expressed little party allegiance and little concern that their third-party votes could benefit Obama, a candidate even further from their views than McCain.

"The notion is, let's just break the GOP because the people who are running and holding office in it aren't respecting what the constituents want," said Jay Weeldreyer, a Paul field director in Renton, Wash. "So, if we can just let them suffer a massive loss, then maybe that will get through to them."

Will young Paul, Huckabee backers stay with GOP? - Yahoo! News

Quote:
Paul has not endorsed another candidate and says his supporters "should do whatever they want." But at a party the night before a recent rally in Washington, he told one Paulite, "The contest is to get as many votes as we can to not support the two major candidates."

Electing a third-party candidate "would be the best thing for the country," Paul said. "Whether (Obama) wins or McCain wins, policies won't change."
I doubt that a third party candidate could be elected this go-round, but hopefully this election can stand as a statement that a significant number of American voters are tired of the Rep/Dem mentality, and that we will vote for change if an alternative is offered.

And maybe that will encourage more politicians to break away from the Rep/Dem mentality and offer that alternative in future elections.
