I think it is important for scientists to research new medical methods in order for technological advancements; however because of the controversy around stem cell research I believe that it should not be government funded. The government should not being giving out money to a cause that is not researched enough and has proven itself very controvertial. I am supportive of private funding though until more concrete evidence can be given as to the benefits of using embryotic cells.

it will most likely be worth it
the rewards outnumber the risks/moral issues.

the list of diseases and conditions that it could resolve is mind-boggling.

If only it was funded right now not only by private funding, but goverment funding..we may be closer to finding cures to major diseases. That is going to take a long time with private funding.

Stem cell research has not shown anything positive to be funded by the goverment yet. Leave it to private funding until they get somewhere with this program.

Sounds promising to me:
Why are doctors and scientists so excited about human embryonic stem cells?
Stem cells have potential in many different areas of health and medical research. To start with, studying stem cells will help us to understand how they transform into the dazzling array of specialized cells that make us what we are. Some of the most serious medical conditions, such as cancer and birth defects, are due to problems that occur somewhere in this process. A better understanding of normal cell development will allow us to understand and perhaps correct the errors that cause these medical conditions.

Another potential application of stem cells is making cells and tissues for medical therapies. Today, donated organs and tissues are often used to replace those that are diseased or destroyed. Unfortunately, the number of people needing a transplant far exceeds the number of organs available for transplantation. Pluripotent stem cells offer the possibility of a renewable source of replacement cells and tissues to treat a myriad of diseases, conditions, and disabilities including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, spinal cord injury, stroke, burns, heart disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

I can't believe these republican's just seem to attack everything we believe in. Stem cell research..something that is good for the American people. They are against this system that could save millions of people with disabilities. I would like to see a republican who is disabled??

As a conservative this is one mainstream view I tend to disagree with. I don't see how the possibility of saving lives in the future could possibly be a bad thing.

I don't see how anyone can possibly be against research that will advance medical science for the greater good of the people, that hurts no one, and could potentially save millions.

I think opposition to this subject, especially for religious reasons, is incredibly selfish and short-sighted.
