Stem cells may cause tumours: US study
October 23, 2006 - 1:09PM

Injecting human embryonic stem cells into the brains of Parkinson's disease patients may cause tumours to form, U.S. researchers reported on Sunday.

Steven Goldman and colleagues at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York said human stem cells injected into rat brains turned into cells that looked like early tumours.

It is my understanding that when testing with human embryo stem cells, the embryos used would have been otherwise discarded. Because of this, I do not find it inappropriate to use those embryos for a productive purpose, instead of using them as the far less respectful landfill-filler.

Because I know of no good reason against using human embryo stem cells, I find it difficult to take any opponent of using them seriously, and I wonder what other good things this politician might deny under the facade of morality.

I do think Fox does not always display the symptoms in that commercial, but I do not find it much different from other commercials about medical illnesses: they are all designed to illicit sympathy.

Michael J Fox is a liar. The candidate he says is against expanding stem cell research is not against expanding stem cell research. He is against using embryos. Fox doesn't say that. Fox is a liar.

Actually, increased research using embryos would be in fact expanding stem cell research. Fox never said the candidate was against stem cell research all together, he said the candidate was against expanding it. This is not lying.

He is not against expanding it. That is a lie. He is against using embryos. Why didn't Michael J. Fox just say that Talent is against using embryos? I know why. Do you?

Here's the opposition's response:

Set to air tomorrow night, this video stars actor Jim Caviziel (Passion of the Christ), actress Patricia Heaton, and Cardinals pitcher Jeff Suppan opposing the stem cell research initiative in Missouri.

And yet, none of them have Parkinson's. They're just actors. So what? And I should believe actors why? The point of Fox being on that commercial wasn't because he was an actor, but because he has Parkinson's. Something I guess the Republicans don't get in their almost purely Machiavellian approach to politics.
