I was listening to NPR today, and they were interviewing some Georgetown University student who really gets into the whole UTube thing. He brought up an interesting point or two...

1. We're in an age where candidates have less and less control over their campaigns - especially what some of their "fans" post on the internet.

2. The candidates that win elections will be the ones who figure out how to use this internet technology to their advantage.

Two very good points.

I don't even remember the last time I watched t.v. Honestly! Well, I do use it to play Halo on Xbox with the roommates and to watch DVD's, but other than that, I do not watch anything else. All my news comes from the FoxNews tab and the CNN news feeds. (Both sides of the story)

I have a feeling the Internet will be a more important source for information about a candidate..not a 20 second ad on the tube.

Very true.
In the last campaign we had the Swift Boat Veterans, and I don't think Bush had any real tangible correlation with their campaign.

So when will President Bill Gates be swearing in?

But seriously, it's bound to swing over in the "internet technology" section.
We're already seeing some effects of that with bloggers breaking some news stories before the major television news sources do.

Take the "Al Gore house energy bill" issue that you posted about. I think that story was first seen on an internet web-site, and it's got to be having some impact on the minds of the public. (Not a "candidate" issue, but relevant just the same.)

Another excellent point on this issue: Presidential candidates who released their "I am running..." announcement on their web-site...

I think that's because they're not held to the same standard as major tv news sources - especially since the Rather fiasco. If something isn't true on a blog, it's just 'oh, well, it's just the internet' - so they can afford to be more cavalier about being absolutely it's true - especially in a whistle blowing incidence. Whereas major tv news is held liable for everything they report.
