Post Article on the Dead Sea
Mideast conflict slows Dead Sea rescue - Yahoo! News

I think this might be the best forum to discuss the Dead (Salt) Sea, which is shrinking. The link above is from Yahoo, but it was in most newspapers yesterday via AP.

I recently read a book authored by John Joseph Hutchins, about William Francis Lynch's 1848 expedition to that area. It is a good book, and if you can find it, I recommend you read it.

Here is a small snippet of it:

William Francis Lynch:

Anyway, with Israel having neighbors like Jordan, West Bank, the Palestinians, why can't they get along and try to save the Dead Sea before it dissappears in 43 years?

Locally. the San Diego Museum of Natural History will showcase the Dead Sea Scrolls, which requires a paid admission to this particular exhibit.

I don't know if this thread will garner any interest, but maybe it is worth discussing as far as politics and environments is concerned.

Water is drying up all over the world. Africa is already experiencing these problems, not because they are tourist hotspots, either.

'Extreme water events' hover in Africa's future : Mail & Guardian Online

In Africa, 25 countries are expected to experience water scarcity or water stress in the next 20 to 30 years. This translates into 16% or 230-million of Africa's population facing water scarcity by 2025, and 32% or 460-million people living in water-stressed countries by that time.

Signs of climate change can be seen in decreasing rainfall and severe droughts in Africa, environmentalists warned at the conference. River levels are dropping. In extreme cases, rivers are drying up.
As far as the Dead Sea is concerned, perhaps those hotels should be torn down and strict water protections put in place, as well as the piping in of water from an outside source.

Yeah, it would be silly to build hotels next to a body of water that will no longer exist, unless the warring factions drop their disputes and start pumping in water to save the Dead Sea.
