So THIS Is Educational?
So this is what education in California has come down to? Commercialized political indoctrination?

The link probably won't stay up long, so I'll post the whole article.

Mostly I laughed at the, "students will be boarding 30 gas-guzzling buses across town to see Al Gore's new global warming film 'AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH'" statement.

Too funny!

BEVERLY HILLS HIGH SENDING 1500 STUDENTS TO SEE GORE'S 'GLOBAL WARMING' FILM

**Exclusive**

School is nearly out for summer, but before the break, students at Beverly Hills High will get a "Heat Day" -- when they get to ditch class to see Al Gore's new movie!

On May 24, 2006, 1,500 Beverly Hills High School students will be boarding 30 gas-guzzling buses across town to see Al Gore's new global warming film 'AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH' at the Arclight Theatre in Hollywood, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Sarah Utley, a science teacher at Beverly Hills High School, explained in an e-mail to staff and students: "This field trip has been funded by a very generous alum!... You get to see the film for free!!!"

Utley would not reveal who is financing the school outing to mark the opening day of the movie.

"We need parent volunteers who can ride the buses and sit in the theatre," Utley said in her pitch. "The buses are arriving at 8:00am and will arrive back at BHHS by 1:00pm."

The film's urgent trailer warns: "Humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb. If the vast majority of the world's scientists are right, we have just ten years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced."

Insiders claim that Utley has annoyed some students with her instance that "global warming" is a proven science.

"She is obsessed with it," said one source. "Can't we just go see 'X-MEN?'"

I think it is great that students have been given the chance to see this movie. The previews for it seemed very interesting. I plan on seeing it.

Quite frankly, I haven't seen or heard of the movie before: "Al Gore's new global warming film 'AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH'".

So you'll have to fill in some pieces.
If it's a movie about global warming, it has educational value in the science arena.
"Al Gore" is associated with it, but that doesn't make it "political" in nature.

HOW do you come by the assessment of calling it "political indoctrination"?

How do I come by saying, "Political Indoctrination"?

Easy. It's what it is.

If it was a movie about the War in Iraq - and portrayed the current administration in a positive light - there'd be no way in hell that those kids would be bussed to see it.

If it was a movie that said a good deal of this Global Warming hype is unsubstantiated and/or exaggerated, there's no way in hell those kids would be bussed to see it.

I'll wait for the DVD.

I don't want to burn the gas required to go see it.

Global Warming, you know.

For some reason, I picture you as the type of person that this type of "reply" would actually work on.
Jefferson (age 7): "Mommy? Why are liberals bad?"
Jefferson's Mom: "Because that's the way they are, and you are to believe that just because you're told to believe that."
Jefferson (age 7): "Makes sense to me!"

But I guess you fulfilled my low expectations that you couldn't answer the question in the first place...

I think such documentaries, if shown, should be showing both sides of the issue, if possible.

If that were the case, the movie wouldn't be scientific in the first place.
There is a basis for global warming.

That movie seems very educational. Yet another example, Jefferson, where you seem to discredit that which may influence people to help with enviromental concerns.

Why?

Why?
Because earth-worshipping environmentalists take themselves SO seriously - think they're the ONLY ones taking care of the earth - and do so while burning massive amounts of refined fuels.

Stop being so hypocritical.

Your attitude is only casting a negative shadow on enviromental progess. Who cares how seriously they take themselves? They are doing what needs to be done and it is a serious topic afterall.

I wish everyone took it that seriously.
