So everything scientific, to you, is falsifiable?

I was watching the weather a few nights ago. They girl said it was going to be 85 here and the record was set back in 1911 at 101. Did they have global warming then?

Obviously we're in a cooling trend.

What I love is the "old coots" that I talk to saying stuff like, "This reminds me of the summer of '36! So hot & dry that everything within 100 miles of here was burned dead. We don't have hot summers like that anymore!"

I also love these "The Sky Is Falling" crazies who try to speak - with authority - about what the temperatures on the earth were like hundreds of years ago, before there were instruments to measure temperature. Who do they think they're fooling?

When people talk about global warming, and the hotest years being the most recent (number 1 being 2005), they're talking about the average temperature of the earth. Factoring all seasons. Not just individual day records.

How long have they had accurate "thermometers"?

Of course. How can something be proven so, if all facts support the claim?

It doesn't matter. You should know this. You don't need thermometers to research back into history. We didn't need scientists back when dinosaurs were roaming the earth to prove they existed. Earth fossilizes past atmospheres actually to much more detail than past species. Bubbles of atmosphere are caught in ice, and researching these ice cores from the north and south poles can take us back hundreds of thousands of years and determine the atmosphere and overall temperature of any given year or time of year, to near exactness.
