Stupid Enviro-Wackos
Tire reef grief
By Dan Gainor
October 26, 2006

Off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., 2 million old tires are pounding into reefs, destroying the ecosystem and littering the shoreline. It's an environmentalist catastrophe.
That's right -- environmentalist. This disaster might as well be sponsored by your favorite left-wing environmental group. Do-gooders launched this project back in 1972 to save the oceans, spawn fish and rid the Earth of mountains of tires that posed health and fire hazards.
Only it didn't quite work that way. Environmentalists and their usual fans in the media are whispering a collective "oops." As reported Oct. 2 in The Washington Post, "Now the idea seems daft. But in the spring of 1972, the dumping of a million or so tires offshore here looked like ecological enlightenment."
Someone should have told Gang Green about the law of unintended consequences, because it took decades for researchers to realize the extent of the mistake. The Post piece estimated it would take three years and cost $3 million to $5 million just to clean up this one error.
That's nothing new for the American environmental movement. They warned us about the devastation that never happened from the Alaskan pipeline; stymied nuclear power with the help of Hollywood and convinced the world DDT was dangerous -- costing millions of lives.

Environmentalists doing something that damages the environment?

No, can't be!

That'd be like thinking PETA people would skin a seal alive to make a point.

As opposed of years of Other partys wiping species off the map, dumping deadly chemicals into our rivers, lakes, and oceans. Or allowing automobile manufacturers loby to keep alternative fuels down? Or President Bush filing a lawsuit agains Oregon for initiating better emission regulation?

At least this was a mistake and not a blatant disregard for the well being of our future generations.

I never said Republican or Democrat. I said "Parties". Not Political Parties. Someone is a bit defensive on this subject.

The Bush Environmental Record: More than 300 Crimes against Nature

That's a brief history of Bush's record and dealings with environmental issue. I could point out Democratic faults, but I do beleive President Bush and his lackeys take the cake of it all.

Put out by the Sierra Club - an ultra-leftist organization.

You need to consider the source.

The Sierra Club has only been labelled an ultra-leftist organization in recent years and only by people who have little respect for the enviroment. Why is that? Can you say Profit Mongers?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong. ~Richard Armour

There are many men of principle in both parties in America, but there is no party of principle. ~Alexis de Tocqueville
