| You ignore simple facts, diesels vehicles cost more than gasoline vehicles. How many average joes do you know that own diesel. Usually diesels are on the foreign cars, and heavy duty trucks. So once again, you ignore facts. Why would they produce a car that the average working family cannot afford. What sense does that make?? None. Can the companies afford to do it?? Yes, but if they don't sell, that means laying off people. Sorry but people are part of the environment as well. Saving the earth is a noble goal, but at what cost???? As I have said before the true environmental wackos will not be happy until we are all running around naked and living in caves. We have heard the doom and gloom for years now, and each year is worse than the year before. But riddle me this, if global warming is such a threat, how is it that many places are experiencing one of the coldest winters in years???? dmk Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles -Russell Kirk- | |||||||||||||||||||||

Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) conversion kits run about $1,400. And that's just the beginning. You ALSO have to have a way of getting, storing, and filtering the used grease from places like McDonalds. In addition, you still have to run on regular Dino-Diesel in order to get the vehicle warmed up, and for the last 5 minutes of the drive. And, when you consider the fact that you'd have to drive nearly 100,000 miles just to save enough money to pay off the cost of the conversion kit, the obvious becomes EXTREMELY obvious. Bio-diesel and WVO conversions are completely and totally useless to the VAST majority of American consumers. But there are better options...

Several years ago I was going to buy her a New Beetle for our wedding anniversary. I WANTED to get a TDI, but the same year & mileage TDI cost at least $3,000 more then the 2.0 liter. So we got the gasser. Then, a little over a year ago, diesel fuel jumped up to where it was almost a dollar more per gallon then regular gas. So much for REALLY saving money by driving diesels. I've driven LOTS of diesel cars & trucks over the years (even a couple crappy GM diesels), and love them. But I'm glad we got the gasser.
