| The Global Warming CULT This Global Warming Cult is becoming dangerous. Censorship. Banning. Being Fired. ALL because anybody dares to NOT agree with the Global Warming Cult. Science, my ass! Global warming is nothing but a new religion. Pretty soon we'll be looking at a new Spanish Inquisition! | This doesn't make much sense. If it isn't a state position then the state government clearly doesn't have any jurisdiction over his title, so why the fuss? On the other hand, it says the state climatology office was created by the state legislature so there might be some state control over the office. I don't know anything about this climatologist, and I'm sure you guys don't either; so I'm not going to pass judgement like you did, Jefferson. Global warming isn't a cult: its backed up with a substantial amount of empirical evidence; while cults have the attribution of fullheartedly believing in something on an irrational basis without any evidence (you know, like religions). There seems to be a confusion between opinion and evidence; between belief and science. This confusion permeates also into the evolution debate. Perhaps this stems from people too used to the political arena and are unfamiliar on how science works, I don't know. But unlike the political arena, in the scientific community one doesn't acquire an equal playing field for their side merely because they have a difference in opinion; but they only acquire equal attention when their argument has substantial evidence; a scientific and empirical basis on which we may consider that argument to be of a significant contender for the scientific truth. What we have here is that the overwhelming majority of evidence points to the existence of global warming, and human activity as a primary cause. People such as this climatologist aren't shunned in the scientific community due to some overreaching and cultish culture in the scientific community, but because there is little to no empirical basis or peer-reviewed studies for such a position. If this climatologist is found to be preaching his opinions at the expense of scientific data, he by all means should be fired. And anyways, it was the Bush administration that has been censoring scientific reports that emphasize the urgency of global warming as well as threatening scientists. | My last post was incomplete. It's easier just to give a link to more information. Maybe humans are the chief cause of global warming. Some graphs are inaccurate in showing what appears to be an exponential rise in temperature. Runaway warming is in question. Catastrophes that would result from global warming (man-made or not) are doubtful. Some people would assume that it makes sense to scare people into using less fossil fuel. I don't agree with that. Wars over petroleum reserves should be enough reason to reduce consumption. We obviously need alternative forms of energy. I can't morally condone any attempts to deny the third world the use of their own fossil fuel resources. We still haven't figured a way to run industry purely on alternative energy in our own country. Why should we be telling third world countries that they shouldn't develop their own industries or have electricity in their homes because of CO2. This is a great presentation which shows all of the data sets: OISM Global Warming Lecture | |||||||||||||||||||||

| It's gotten to the point where trying to deny Global Warming is like trying to deny gravity or evolution. It's happening. It's happening at an unusually fast rate. It's probably happening because of human activity. What, exactly, is the best course of action is still open for debate. If at first you don’t succeed – try, try again and then quit. | The UK government has taken "global warming" alongside "the war on terror" and used it as justification for massive rises in taxes and state interference. Anyone who objects is pilloried as someone who "does not want to save the planet", or worse still "condones terrorism". It's all a big con. And now it looks like Bush might be trying to get in on the act, albeit somewhat late. Mark.B BC Forums | |||||||||||||||||||||

| This is just one guy out of the ever amassing amount of scientists and evidence. | Check out this link. IT conclusively shows that since computer models used to prove increases in greenhouse gasses causing global warming do not include water vapor, that global warming is a HOAX.
