Talk Show Host Says He's Glad Radio Rival's Mother Is Dead
Talk Show Host Says He's Glad Radio Rival's Mother Is Dead - News Story - WISN Milwaukee

Freedom of speech is one of the most precious rights we have, but this is absolutely disgusting.
Imagine if this was directed at you right after your mother passed away.
I would be absolutely incensed (my Italian temper would explode).

Well, but consider the source...

MILWAUKEE -- A former alderman and controversial radio talk show host said he's happy the mother of his radio rival is dead.

Michael McGee Sr. made the comments during his radio show on WNOV-AM Thursday morning. Charlie Sykes is a radio talk show host on WTMJ-AM. Sykes' mother, Katherine B. Sykes, died in a house fire Tuesday. The Ozaukee County Coroner said Thursday that Sykes died of smoke inhalation [

I have since heard that McGee has been indefinitely suspended for the comment.

Good grief the guy who made the comment about being glad the rival's mother is dead is an IDIOT.

This woman died in a FIRE, of smoke inhalation.
It's possible that an open casket funeral isn't even an option for this family.

And this guy is glad it happened?

I'm pissed the radio station didn't fire him outright. Probably a contractual / legal issue but they should just can his ass.

An employee at WNOV-AM said they've received a lot of phone calls about McGee's comments and that most listeners are not happy about what was said.
"Most"? As in "not all"?
I shudder to think that there are actually people who were happy about what was said.

I hope they fired this guy.

"Free speech" does not excuse this. Having the right to do something doesn't mean that it is the right thing to do.
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.

AISI, the radio station has free speech, and those who work for it ought to only be able to say what complies with their standards.

Just like at this forum, people can say anything they want to in this nation, but if they come here and do write things that are contary to the policy and rules of the DtT, they can be banned. Sure, they are free to peddle whatever their thoughts are and in any verbiage they choose, but the DtT has the freedom to say, "Not in my house." And so does the radio station have that right, I would think.

Free speech doesn't mean having the right to abuse it.

You don't have "freedom of speech" when somebody is paying you to talk.

The radio station would be totally within their rights to fire him.

As for his right to say things like that? Sure, I support that right, even when people say horrible things.

But again, as a paid employee of a radio station, you don't have full freedom of speech. You could not, for example, invoke freedom of speech if you got fired for going on the air and saying, "my bosses are all stupid assholes, and they don't pay me enough."

Well, pretty much the same concept here, if this guy did indeed get fired.
