Two Radio Jocks Fired For Saying...
CBS fired two radio personalities a few days ago; for saying "flied lice" instead of "fried rice" this being interpreted as a racial slur. Is this just or are we going Gesatpo? Keep in mind eveywhere you go people make fun of southern accents in a manor to relate southerners to being stupid.

Firing might be a bit over the line but, as a private company, CBS certainly has the right to decide how they want their employees to represent them to the public.

Funny accents used to be standard fair for comics and I don't really agree with the tendency to see all such comedy as racist or even derogatory. Sometimes a joke is just a joke.

But I assume that you are talking about JV & Elvis. It seems to me that these two guys were pushing the envelope to see how far they could go. Looks like maybe they found out.

In the segment, broadcast on April 5 and again last week, a caller to a Chinese restaurant intersperses an order for takeout with lewd language and racial slurs.

The caller tells one female employee he wants to come to the restaurant to see her naked and refers to a part of her body as "hot, Asian, spicy."

The caller attempts to order "shrimp flied lice" and refers to a male employee as "Chinese man" before claiming himself to be a student of kung fu.

At one point he refers to a part of the employee's body as a "tiny egg roll."

As an Alabamian, I am painfully familiar with the tendency of those from other regions to make fun of our accents. So long as it is goodnatured and they are aware that they make their own accents fair game, I usually don't take offense. (Anyone out there from Joisey?) When it gets to the point that it is obviously mean-spirited then I can start to get a little ruffled.
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.
That's why I support the Pickens Plan. Check out the website at www.pickensplan.com. If you like what you see, please join me as a Pickens Plan supporter.

As I said in another thread on this forum, there is no "free speech" when you're being paid to talk.

The people paying you get to decide what you can/can't say. If you don't like it, you can always look for another job.
If at first you don’t succeed – try, try again and then quit. There’s no sense in making a damned fool of yourself. – W.C. Fields
