I agree, but then the U.S. president is not used to speaking to crowds that do not share his views. His advance team would have that audience removed.

Pressed specifically about punishment of homosexuals, he said: "In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country." With the audience laughing derisively, he continued...

I think that means that Iranian homosexuals are better at hiding than American ones are.

He did. He claimed there were no gays in Iran

AFP: 'No homosexuals in Iran': Ahmadinejad

Maybe they need to import some. Persia did pretty well under Alexander the Great.

Did anyone actually see his UN speech? I certainly don't agree with alot of his values and ideals concerning his countries business. I watched the speech and I hate to admit that alot of the things he said are true. Ahmadinejad didn't mentioned the US specifically but used phrases like 'aggressive capitialist nations'.
He mentioned his religion and his beliefs that everyone should live together in harmony. I did get the impression that he does want peace and as he pointed out, there is no proof of his government's involvement with terrorists in Iraq. He denies wanting nuclear weapons and would like to just have nuclear power and is being told he can by the a country one of the largest nuclear arsenals in the world.
He made it clear that he wants peace but is afraid of us.
At this point I couldn't help but to think of Dick Cheney, on a Nuclear Aircraft Carrier, off the coast of Iran, flatout threatening them.
The camera panned around at the different UN delegates and it seemed to me he had some of the countries on his side. They then showed the US's box and there was one younger girl in attendence, someone's assistant at best, it seemed.
I hate to feel as if, the US, the supposed land of the free, won't even listen to what 'Our Enemy' has to say. It seems we abandoned diplomatic solutions once Bush put Iran on the "Axis of Evil List".
I don't have a link for the actual speech, as I saw it on TV, but its worth looking for.

yes, I watched it - and yes, I agree with you about his being right on the money some of the time

on the other hand - there are many things about his country that I don't like - yet I dont advocate sponsoring terrorist groups to bring them down

It's true that if we won't listen to them why should they listen to us?

I can see the validity of some of the Arab viewpoints, as explained by Ahmadinejad. Why should the Palestinians be punished for the holocaust which was primarily a European problem?

Perhaps the state of Israel should have been created in Germany or Iowa where it would have been less contentious and a lot safer.

I also heard a right wing wacko talk radio host expounding the theory that Ahmadinejad wants to trigger a nuclear war to precipitate the return of the twelfth Imam al-Mahdi, who will rule over a worldwide muslim caliphate.

Can't say I agree with everything Ahmadinejad says, and he gives some very slippery answers to questions like all politicians, but we should at least be talking to Iran and trying to understand their pov.

After all, is this not in the realm of education? What's the big deal? We send our journalists to have interviews with the likes of Saddam, Chavez, Castro, and such others. Why? To give the American public a chance to "learn" the impact and issues involving these such interviews. A college or university is no different- it just plays to its own crowd; that's all. As far as who some college or university asks to speak; I am unaware of any restiction or "watch list" that Ahmadinejad has against him or that he is on.
