The fact though is it's not. His vow to wipe Israel off the face of the map only created more tension to an already stressed situation. Plus the fact is the man speaks out of both sides of his mouth depending on the audience. Double minded, double toungue, it is an important thing to remember at all times when considering such speeches.

He says that wiping Israel off the map means moving it some place else.

I agree it's a fait accompli.

I think Columbia should take him up on his offer to visit any Iranian University they choose and talk to Iranian students and faculty directly.
Somehow I doubt that students or faculty of Columbia University will be visiting Iran anytime soon.

And, if they do visit, I think it is very likely the audience there will be "hand-picked" by the regime, if you know what I mean.

Perhaps.

But hindsight doesn't work today too well at solving the Isreali-Palestinian problem, 60 years later.

True. But it doesn't harm to know the other side's point of view.

How many Americans know about the history of Israel? or the US backed installation of the Shah? or US aid to Iraq in the Iran/Iraq war? or why the Palestinian people are so pissed off?

I think they should call his bluff and visit Iran with a huge delegation.

It will be very obvious if the visit was restricted.

And that if it only the US State Dept. allows them to visit Iran, like they won't allow the US citizens to visit Cuba.

I agree.

And perhaps some history lessons for Americans are in order.

For example, it should be surprising to some Americans to know that Iran was militarily supported by Israel during the Iran-Iraq war since Israel considered Iraq a greater threat.

And, it should surprising to some Americans to know that Israel was politically supported by Iran in the early part of its existence since Iran saw Arabs, in general, as a greater threat.

Nations appear to "change sides" quite often in the Middle East.

I think it is likely that the State Department won't allow such a visit.

I think it might be interesting if they did, however, and that such a visit would take place in the future.
