I just think that the invocation (or requirements thereof) of "God" is seen as a manner of denial of religious freedom. We pride ourselves on this very fact; yet we really cannot define it's true meaning. I'm getting this view by having read just the last few posts.
P.N.; while I agree with your post in a personal manner, It actually contradicts itself in that it ties America with God- thereby making the point that one's belief in God is what makes him an American. I do agree with the point that if one does not wish to say "under God", they should not be forced to or required to. That is the quandary of this very point. To require this invocation is a denial of one's right to excercise freedom of religion just as surely as saying that all Americans must be the same religion. I believe this very point is why Church and State must be seperate entities in America. We are not a theocracy where Church and State are one in the same.We may disagree with our neighbor's religion (or lack of it); but can we force him to follow the religion that we do? We cannot.

Nutty, I think you may have misinterpreted my post somewhat. I realize there are plenty of loyal Americans who do not believe in a God; therefore, they should not be compelled to pledge allegiance to one. I also realize some people have an issue with the pledge itself and that is understandable as well. My real point was to say that if you have issue with the nation of America itself - just leave. This is not to say that you have to agree with everything the government does (I don't think anybody does). If you think everything is so much better in Holland, for example, get fitted for your wooden shoes right now!

That must be it,P.N. Nobody is compelled to live in America, for whatever reason. So the choice to leave is absolute. I guess I just have a problem with people tying Church and State together. I do not; and never willingly would question one's beliefs- that is a matter of choice. But putting these two together will always be a problem because many unwittingly think we should. I apologize for the misinterpreptation. Bythe way, How are things going over there in Iraq? Are you getting plenty of sun? LOL.

So everyone who was upset by Clinton getting a BJ should have just left the country?

Everyone upset at Shrub lying about WMD's should just leave the country?

Isn't being able to express ones displeasure at the behavior of the government a fundamental American rights?

Reread my post catus. I said that it doesn't mean you have to agree with everything the government does (nobody does).

Before you leave be sure to find a country that will accept you!

Most other countries worth living in have tight immigration requirements
