Fairness Doctrine
America has many rights that we take for granted each. Freedom of speech is now being attacked again, through the fairness doctrine.

Lately, we've heard alot from Reverend Wright's view on America's role in the world. I don't agree with much of what he says, but he has the right to say what he thinks. I believe that we should have the right say anything want.

We have plenty of laws against crimes. How, then, can we Americans allow ourselves to be silenced by a minority group? The thought police are coming. Big Brother, all that stuff.

This will effect us all, if we allow this doctrine to take effect. Sen. Obama has put great thought into signing the fairness doctrine into American law.

Ummm, no it isn't. There's been whispers from a couple of senators about reviving the Fairness Doctrine, I think Dick Durbin said something about it last year. S
o far there hasn't been any legislation brought forth to bring it back in the 110th Congress. (The last year-and-a-half or so.)

And I agree 100%, the 1st Amendment protects our rights and especially the rights of those whose views and ideas we disagree with. Though besides the AIDS comment and him praising Farrakhan at the NPC, there isn't a whole lot I disagree with. Especially this (A side of Wright you don't see on CNN/MSNBC/FOX/ABC/etc.):

YouTube - Obama's Pastor Jeremiah Wright on Jesus solving problems.

It was already here at one point, the Fairness Doctrine was killed though in 1987, struck down by the FCC in a 4-0 vote. Since then there have been a few attempts here and there to revive it but they were dismal at best.

Hmmm... haven't heard him say much about the Fairness Doctrine at all, gotta source?

You didn't answer my question. A "yes" with a source or sources, or a no would have sufficed

Talk radio. Maybe just conspiracy, but worth researching.

Mostly conspiracy. Every time we're near an election the dead horse that is the Fairness Doctrine is revived just long enough to try to scare some folk into voting a certain way, whatever way the talking heads on the radio want their listeners to vote I suppose.

The Fairness Doctrine is rather unpopular amongst Republicans, Independents, and Democrats, which is a good thing.
