Organized religion, although in most of its intent to bring peace, has been one of the most destructive things to human civilization. But not to put all the condemnation onto religion, if it weren't for organized religion, its my belief that people would find other differences to fight over.

Unfortunately, many religions have extremist sects which seem to be taking power in many countries; from many aspects of background from Christian fundamentalists in the United States to the Hamas and of coarse the Iranian theocracy. These people are painting the wrong pictures of their religion and are continuingly acting with policies which are distinctly contrary to their religion's actual teachings. They are a minority of religions, but it is unfortunate that they have such political power in the world.

I am about as religious at it gets, and I am terrified of organized religion. They refuse to live up to the word, instead, they try to give their own interpretation of the word. The Bible is the most powerful weapon, you can use it to do anything.

I just don't understand how people can give that much weight to a book that was written by humans over 2000 years ago. People thought the world was flat!! The bible is completely meaningless to the quest of finding truth about God and the unknown mysteries of life and death.

There was no TV, little entertainment and A LOT of unanwered questions. It is only natural they tried to fill in the blanks themselves to give their existence more meaning.

Of course, that's nothing new.

And your answer brings it back to the usual "because I say so". There is no logical explanation to why people follow a manmade book of 2000 years ago. Faith does not make things true or real. That is why you need faith in the first place.
