Defending the Truth

Here is a fairly straight forward question... If you are a heterosexual, why do you care at all what homosexuals do? Why do you care if they can marry or join the military or otherwise be treated as equals? For what reason should homosexuals not be treated equally?

I personally don't believe in treating any person different then another. I believe that every citizen in our country, no matter how diverse that individual is, should have the same rights and freedoms I have as long as it's not harming others or is non-consensual.

I'll be eager to see if you get any responses that don't boil down to the two common arguments:

1. I think gay people are icky.
2. An old book told me to think gay people are icky.

And here's where that can get kind of shall we say...wierd. This guy is conforming to your "rules" yet....Is this okay with you?

If you were white in the 50's and 60's, why should you care that blacks in the south were not being treated equally?

For that matter, we know they are STILL not being treated equally, and it bothers me.

You asked why. It bothers me because we are all Americans, regardless of skin color. We live in a country where we are all created equal, and we should be treated as such.

Anything less is not just needlessly unfair and cruel, but un-American.

Actually, I was doing a rhetorical in response to tad's, what I consider a little naive, question.

Why should any of us care what happens to someone else? Because we are all human beings, and should treat others the way you would like to be treated.

Again, you try to compare apples to lettuce...

Consentual relationships between consenting adults are not harmful...The rape/molesting of children on the other hand is causing harm to the child, who can't consent to such actions...And the day your 'example' crosses that line of raping/molesting/harming a child, he'll be delt with. If not by the law, then he'll be delt with by others in that community.

Or like FX just did, by throwing in an example of pedophilia...As usual. Guess his next two favorite subjects will be following quickly behind since he can't seem to keep on subject and has to bring in non-related 'instances' that have absolutely nothing to do with SSM or the thread Tad started...

My point is that when we treat everyone "equal" and try to create a set of rules to protect those that obviously aren't, there will always be someone that will find a way to flaunt said set of rules. When we create laws that protect speech and thought, we create loopholes for guys like this.
As much as we would love to believe it to be true, we aren't all "equal" and shouldn't all be treated "equally". This guy is icky and it didn't take an "old book" to tell me that this was the case. But he isn't breaking the "rules" set up to protect "icky" people so what do we do"?
So yes this is "on subject". Since it is addressing the "equality" issues brought up in your post. Additionally, if pedo is off topic, isn't racism also pretty much off topic too? But that doesn't keep that from popping up a lot.
