Best comeback ever....

My sister was getting ready to tell a Polak joke (back in the 70's when Polak jokes were 'in'). My cousin's wife piped up 'Rae, just wanted you to know that I'm Polish'. My sister didn't hesitate "That's okay, Mary Alice, I'll tell it realllll slllloooowwwwww". We all cracked up, Mary Alice harder then anyone.

I know at least one Polack joke, but they can be changed to blonde jokes, too.

The only thing "Polish" I ever saw was a coffee mug with the handle on the inside.

I concur with the majority. That was funny.

PN, I'll say it again, sorry 'bout that. The gay whale thing, in itself, was not that offensive. I was just upset because I take the plight of wildlife seriously and you were making jokes. Some threads just shouldn't be joked about. I realize your intent was to just be funny and I reacted improperly. I was wrong, my bad. I was having a really bad day, with everything going wrong and I'm sorry.

I also voted 'it depends on the joke'.

I was wondering how people might respond. I don't find the joke all that funny. But I don't think it's really offensive either.

But I was curious, it came up as a topic of discussion on another forum I used to frequent, and people there reacted to it as if Satan himself had written the joke.

I guess they're just more uptight than folks here.

Sounds like you are right. I think if you can't laugh at yourself then you are doomed to be miserable all your days.

I am still chuckling over a joke by one of the contestants on Last Comic Standing. This chick was about as butch as a woman can get without having undergone sex-change treatment.

So she comes onstage and leads with:

"You know what I hate about stereotypes about lesbians?"

{Long pause.}

"They all apply to me!"

myt - I think the difference between offensive "jokes" and funny jokes is whether or not somebody is being denigrated. The joke you related is funny because - even though on the surface it's about killing the "gay" spiders - it's REALLY about the movie "Brokeback Mountain," the furor that surrounded it, and the silliness of such attitudes. Actually, that's why it has to be a little girl in the story - if it had been the guy's WIFE, it wouldn't have been as funny.

Well, that, and his thinking his little angel is so innocent and pure.

crazy - LOL - that reminds me of the lesbian comic on one of Logo's comedy specials. She was a very cute little pixie type, with very short hair.

She said she always walked into the salon with Halle Berry hair fantasies and walked out with a Harry Potter reality.

No problem ty. I wasn't having a banner day either. The gay whale thing came from a bumper sticker I once saw that read "nuke a gay whale for Jesus." I always thought that was funny.

Since we're on the subject of what's offensive, does anybody find that slogan offensive?
