That is not necessary when:

But it was his appearance in a Washington, DC gay bar in September 2000 that got him in hot water. After he was photographed, he was suspended as Chairman of Exodus and put on a temporary "hiatus" by Focus on the Family."

Ex-Gay Scandals and Defections

This is a quote from someone else that describes how I feel about religious based conversion therapy:

"
Fundamentalists play on the spiritually and emotionally wounded. Using the tenets of born-again fundamentalism, they try to convince dissatisfied homosexuals - usually young gay men just coming out who are stressed out by family pressure and society's intolerance -that they can change by suppressing their orientation."

I know how much you object to the use of abbreviations used as slurs

I agree people should be free to talk about anything

That is nice to hear
Interesting you quote a guest from Oprah as an example of a "peer reviewed scientific study"!!

exactly.
Like all cults, they don't have any appeal to the emotionally strong and mentally healthy. Preying on those who are not is how all cults garner new members.

This "ex-gay" was on Oprah, 60 minutes, and made the cover of Newsweek to promote his cause. Being photographed in gay bar he was suspended from Exodus. One does not need a scientific journal to know that he screwed himself and his cause.

Was he an "ex gay" for glory, self denial, or some power trip to fuck with the minds of vulnerable people. In my unscientific observations, it is those people who scream "I am not a fag" the loudest are the ones who are.

I have an issue with these groups considering celibacy as a success. The ones who are celibate are no longer attracted to members of the same sex, or do they simply not act on it?

And what, exactly is 'meaningful but complicated' heterosexuality? I would definitely not define it as healthy...

Even if heterosexual mating resulted in the death of parents, as it does in some species, there is still no other way to reproduce humans without the help of medical technology. Any other orientation has no other biologic purpose than masturbation.

They can deny the pleasures of the flesh, but they cannot deny the desires of their dreams.

"'meaningful but complicated' heterosexuality?" sounds more like 'almost' heterosexual.

As we have said, many alcoholics suffer relapse on the bumpy road to sobriety. Some never make it.

While heterosexual sex is required for making babies, it is not the sole purpose of all human sex. Additionally, this planet's increasing population shows that continued procreation is not needed.

That response was entirely unrelated to the statements or questions that I posed.

Not being snotty, but were you addressing something that I said or was that just throwing out a statement using the nearest post?

Yes alcoholics do relapse, but I question any comparison to homosexuality. Alcoholics who drink have infinitely more issues than a homosexual.
