That's not a very good method of getting people sympathetic to gay rights.

Marnoto told a Times reporter on Monday that the event was not being held at Valentino's but said it was because Ring had failed to call back to confirm the event or pay a $100 deposit.

Speech cancelled amid questions of 'hate speech' versus 'free speech' - GloucesterTimes.com, Gloucester, MA

Funny that. This guy doesn't confirm his reservation or pay his deposit but then wants to pretend that his speech was canceled because the big bad queers were planning a protest.

What a big lying whiny baby!
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.

If you are gonna cancel an event, why would you pay the fee?

That may be why the venue canceled the event, but the speaker's reasons for not paying the fee are separate issues.

I heard they were going to have a big speech here in New Haven in which the speakers wanted to have a public vote on the rights of blacks to vote and the rights of blacks to live in white neighborhoods.

It got canceled too - can't imagine why.

Really? I'd like to read the news release on that. What a crock of BS.

You need to read more closely. Ring claimed that the restaurant management canceled because of intimidation.

The restaurant management said it was because Ring did not confirm his reservation or pay his deposit.

Someone is lying.

Quote:
Parker and Jonathan Ring, chairman of Cape Ann Marriage and Families and organizer of the event, said that they were disappointed by the cancellation, which they blamed on pressure put on Marnoto by Know Thy Neighbor.

But Ring said Tuesday the event had been canceled due to the negative publicity a protest by Know Thy Neighbor would have generated for Valentino's.

"I understand the decision of Valentino's," Ring said on Tuesday. "They do what is right for their clientèle, and I think they should be commended for that."

Okay, so if I understand this article correctly, here's what happened:

A anti-gay group was going to give a speech opposing gay rights (they are using their free speech)

A pro-gay group decided to protest the speech (again using their free speech)

The anti-gay group decided to cancel their speech because they thought the protest would generate negative publicitiy (again using their free speech)

Frankly, I don't see what the problem is. Obviously no one's free speech was denied. So are people upset that a speech was being protested? Are you saying, "People shouldn't protest things because those things might be cancelled?" Does that viewpoint make any sense at all?

I agree. I know I wouldn't have canceled my speech.

More on the guy.

Agreed. Someone IS. Hard to say who. But this guy doesn't seem like one to shy away from controversy. So my vote is on the venue.
