It would be interesting to run a thread where the supporters of homosexual marriage argue against it and vice versa.

Any takers??

I think too much emphasis was placed on the teachings of Paul, because Paul was a misogynist. The men who put together the Bible as we know it today left out many many texts because they didn't agree with their philosophies of the times. The Gospel of Mary Magdelene is a good example. They turned her into a prostitute, for God's sake. And there has never been any proof of that, just the opposite, in fact.

Yes, Jesus said that about a man and his wife. He also said 'Pull the log out of your own eye' and 'cast not pearls before swine'. He spoke in parables, yet that one line everybody interprets verbatim. It's ridiculous.

I was very anti-Paul for a while too. But his vision and conversion on the road to Damascus happened for a reason. You can't simply blow it off, IMO.

Christ appointed Paul with a mission. There's simply no way around that.

Tristan, I've seen this excuse use a million times by a thousand people in hundreds of different ways.

Yes, the overall context was about divorce, but in order to do that, Jesus set the stage by clearly defining what He meant by MARRIAGE. It's sort of hard to set parameters for divorce unless you establish the parameters for marriage first.

Also, Homosexuality was very open, common and accepted in the time/place/culture where Jesus walked the Earth. If there EVER was a time in religious history for one of God's Messengers to condone homosexual unions, that would have been it.

Paul also taught that a woman 'belongs' to her husband. We don't practice that, either.

As far as the rest of your post, see my previous post about opinions.

One of the car dealers around here was advertising a special on the radio recenlty:

"With each purchase of four-wheel-drive truck, we'll throw in a free winch!"

Almost crashed my jeep a couple of times laughing at that one.

It was NOT "open, common and accepted" for permanent homosexual unions. Homosexuality was considered aberrant behaviour by heterosexuals. They did not understand/grasp the concept of homosexuals as we know them today.

Yes, it was open and common - but it was open and commonly used as a tool of war (homosexual rape) and as 'exotic' behaviour by straight people.

Life long homosexual partners were as hidden then as they were in America 60 years go.

Well, we only have Paul's word that anything actually occurred, right?

Hasn't there been plenty of people that say Jesus spoke to them, too?
