same sex marriage
In the world today homosexuals are looked at by many people to be the underdog or those we should tolerate and protest for. I am writing this, however, to convey to the reader that gay marriage/relationships are just as heinous of an act as stealing or adultery.

p.s. all my arguments during the course of this debate are based off of my religion of christianity.

I'm sure you meant that it's based ON, and not "off of" your idea of Christianity (in my church, we capitalize the word).

Now, please feel free to continue your little rant-let.

Within the parameters of religion, I agree with you. I don't see how any church that "affirms" homosexuality and blesses same-sex unions at its altar can sleep at night or look at itself in the mirror, so to speak. I think you have to perform some very interesting exersises in denial and some real theological gymnastics to get to that point.

That being said, if a church does want to takes those steps and be "gay affirming," well, that's their business, not mine. It's ultimately between them and the Man Upstairs.

However, that's from the P.O.V. of religion.

Gay marriage as it is being debated on a societal level today is more of a civil/legal issue. Can you come up with an argument as to why gay marriage is wrong in the secular sense? I've yet to see one I found convincing.

Why?

The only verse that says anything about homosexual behaviour is in the Old Testament, and most of what are 'rules' in the OT are not adhered to by modern churches. Why is homosexuality singled out not to be practiced but it's okay to eat shellfish? Or don't keep slaves?

Seems to me that the churches that want to ban homosexuality are the ones practicing selective rules, not the other way around.

Jesus taught 'Love your neighbor as you would love yourself' and 'Judge not lest ye be judged'. That's it.

True Christians need to live their lives as Jesus taught and lived. Period.

The good reverend Fred Phelps does not agree with you.
