The had experienced job losses, threats, being banned from education... and knew people who had been imprisoned or even killed for being Baha'is.

It's sad, because all the Persians I've met have been such beautiful, distinguished people.. and from what I was able to learn of their culture, they have an amazing heritage.

To see Iran under the control of such ignorant despots is truely sad.
I wonder how the Indians would have treated the Pilgrims had they known how that would eventually turn out? I seriously doubt that the two cultures would survive together. So one of them had to go. You can consider the same thing in Iran. If they allow too much "diversity" eventually you end up with the mess we have here.

I mean seriously, how is anyone really gonna know you are "gay" unless you are at a gay bar, at the Gay Pride Parade, or standing wide in in the bathroom? I mean it's not like pedosexuals run down the street in a clown suit with bags of candy for kids and zoosexuals don't have a Zoo Pride Parade. In fact the government forces any sexual offender to have to register and puts their picture on the internet to ostracise them and keep the FROM just blending in with everybody else. Until a gay guy puts on his pink wings and tights and a gay woman gets a butch cut and male cut jeans to make it obvious their "sexual orientation", no one knows.
without the you reporting the gay news fxashun I'd have no idea what was happening with the gay community here or elsewhere because I simply don't care what consenting adults do, conversely you seem rather obssessed.

And if anyone is moronic enough to actually think homosexual behavior in private or public is tolerated in Iran they are profoundly stupid. Anyone found to be engaging in it are tortured and killed, in fact they use it as a means of disposing of 'enemies' of the state even if they aren't gay..would people like fx pull there heads out please and wake up to reality. Thinking this Iranian official is telling the truth is akin to thinking Cheney has the countries best interest at heart as opposed to his own personal gain

Conservatism: Self-centered mean-spiritedness fueled by ignorance and misguided self-importance.

Bigotry is a social disease.

Legalized same-sex marriage almost certainly benefits those same-sex couples who choose to marry, as well as the children being raised in those homes. - David Blankenhorn is president of the New York-based Institute for American Values and the author of "The Future of Marriage."

Glad I could be of service. And I have already admitted to you that for your purposes, you could consider me obsessed. But I say to you that you seem to be obsessed at calling me obsessed....well that and being insanely anti-religious.
IMHO your severe anti-religious bent is just as abnormal as homosexuality. Just think, you'd also be killed for voicing your views on religion in some countries. Whereas thinking there is something wrong with homosexuality is pretty much common throughout the human race.
So while I can voice my opinion anywhere, you might want to be careful if you travel in certain countries...like Iran.

There's this thing called "outing."

Here, it ruins careers.
There, it gets you killed.

It would seem that someone would have to know you pretty well to know you are gay. Especially in a society where you might get killed for certain actions. Forget being "in the closet", I'd be in the closet in the basement in a locked trunk.

Hell, I won't get killed for being a looner, but no one knows in my personal life except my wife and sister. I told my sister because I have two trunks full of inflatable stuff and I knew she'd get a good laugh out of it. Every time we pass a car dealership I say "OOOH BALLOONS". We get a good giggle out of it. Especially if someone is in the car with us and wonders what is so funny.

Advise to the women on this board:

Travel alone in Iran wearing short-shorts, no bra, and a tank top.

I'm sure you are familiar with the Salem witch trials. There never were any actual witches. Just deadly paranoia about them. Calling someone a witch was enough to have that person brought to trial, and those trials weren't too fair, putting it mildly.

I have to imagine the same environment exists as regards gay people in countries like Iran. Someone telling the right lie in the right ear would be enough to get you seriously investigated, I imagine.

Brrr. Shiver down my spine thinking about that.
