Gary..........this is what I have said all along!!! Remember? I didn't care what they called it,Marriarge, civil partnership or horse s***.Its really only a small majority of the gay community that would take nothing less than marriage. All most of us want is the rights that go with a union.
Can you believe it,we agree on something.Today is a bad time to talk about living in Scotland lol.........Its has rained buckets lol

SO maybe you should have worked on your fellow American homosexuals to pursue British style civil partnerships?

BTW - you're living in Scotland - it will always be raining!

All of my american gay friends fill the same as I do.Really most of them fill that the few "marriage only" gays are why we are in such a battle. We believe in picking our battles and we also believe in compromise. As long as we can have protection for our union it doesn't matter what the union is called.

I think compromise is important

perhaps if the blacks had not insisted on using the same fountains as whites and simply accepted "african american" fountains to replace "colored" fountains, there wouldn't be so much resentment towards blacks in America today.

...just saying, since we're discussing separate and unequal

I marched in the civil rights movement and most of the people I was with didn't give a tinkers d*** about a water fountain. To them is was equal pay, education, etc. Thangs that affected there families. The few that made a big deal about water fountains just made it harder on the many.

so you think they should have merely pushed for equal pay and education and continued to use colored only water fountains and bathrooms?

See you've only been in Scotland for a few days and already you're starting to sound more sensible!

I am just saying what was said to me so many years ago. I was 15 at the time and was for it all...lol..........looking back I would have still marched, but wouldn't have been so radical.Guess its my age now lol but I fill that if the emphasis hadn't been on bathroons and water fountains and more on pay, schools, and family it might not been as hard.
The family that lived on out farm when I was growing up were like family to us.There children and I were very close. When I started school at age 6 I couldn't understand why I could be picked up at the end of my lane to catch the bus but they had to walk a mile. Why we had to go to different schools. Why when I had my own spelling book they had to share one with another classmate so they could only bring it home everyother day. Its things like that that the family wanted to fix.Not if they could use a white bathroom.Like I said pick your battles. You have a better chance of getting others on you side if you do.If you use a big stick you will just make everyone on guard to be hit. Softly softly chip away the walls.

In any case the sinister apartheid laws of some southern American states, and the redefinition of marriage to accommodate homosexuals, are completely non-analogous.
