Are Gay Rights Civil Rights ?
ARE gay rights civil rights? Of course they are. "Civil rights" are positive legal prerogatives--the right to equal treatment before the law. These are rights shared by all--there is no one in the United States who does not--or should not--share in these rights.
Gay and lesbian rights are not "special rights" in any way. It isn't "special" to be free from discrimination--it is an ordinary, universal entitlement of citizenship. The right not to be discriminated against is a commonplace claim we all expect to enjoy under our laws and our founding document, the Constitution. That many had to struggle to gain these rights makes them precious--it does not make them special, and it does not reserve them only for me or restrict them from others.
When others gain these rights, my rights are not reduced in any way. Luckily, "civil rights" are a win/win game; the more civil rights are won by others, the stronger the army defending my rights becomes. My rights are not diluted when my neighbor enjoys protection from the law--he becomes my ally in defending the rights we share

How can your neighbour share your special homosexual rights if he isn't homosexual?

And what "rights" are you denied because of your homosexuality?

Sounds like yet another example of playing victim

Does that include the right to preach that homosexuality is sinful?

sure

people preach all the time about things that I find abhorrent - there are people who preach against, blacks, Jews, Catholics, women, etc.

one cannot outlaw bigotry - only make sure that all are treated equally under the law

Did you burn your porridge today??

Had you read my post you would realise that I was arguing that homosexual rights cannot pertain to straight people BY DEFINITION - ergo they ARE special rights!

And I'm still waiting for examples of rights that are witheld from homosexuals.

Marriage and joining the military are not rights btw.

Of course it does. As well as my right to laugh at the one doing said preaching.
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.

You have a right to laugh.

But the right to oppose homosexuality on moral grounds is being denied in California schools

Sacramento, Oct 16, 2007 / 10:09 am (CNA).- Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed into law a bill requiring all California public schools to positively portray homosexuality to children as young as kindergarten.
California bill could radically favor homosexuality in schools

Yet another example of special homosexual "rights"?

Answered in the past many many times......is this the only question you can come up with?
Marriage and joining the military are not rights btw.
We have gone through this on other treads and you and I have even agreeded on some things like the marriage thing.

There are no special rights..........only human rights.

Is this
