The U.S. position on the matter is still the majority among most countries. Wiki has a helpful map on the subject.

It kills me how this minute minority of the world population has pushed their point into an uproar in a few countries and then some of them buy their own hype that the rest of the world cares.
That was an excellent link! Thanks for sharing it!

Political Ads Attack New Jersey Gays by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff

(Trenton, New Jersey) A conservative group opposed to same-sex marriage has launched radio ads throughout New Jersey using children's voices to denounce gay unions.
The ads begin with an announcer saying "If we change the definition of marriage.." but is interrupted by a child.
"Grandma, my teacher said if grandpa was a girl that's ok, you can still be married,'" the voice says.
The announcer then returns to say: "Our kids will be taught a new way of thinking: 'God creating Adam and Eve is so old-fashioned.'"
"Thinking the unthinkable: 'If my dad married a man, who would be my mom?'"
The ads were paid for by the National Organization for Marriage.
The group says it is hoping to encourage people to call their state lawmakers urging them to block an effort to legalize same-sex marriage during the lame duck session of the Legislature.
A number of state Democrats have proposed bringing in a bill that would change civil unions to marriage.
New Jersey Senate President Richard Codey said that the National Organization for Marriage is wasting its money.
No vote on gay marriage will be taken during the remainder of the session.
That assurance was welcomed by New Jersey's largest LGBT civil rights group. Garden State Equality said it will use the time to build support for changing the civil union law.
GSE chair Steven Goldstein said the key is the makeup of the new legislature, set to take office in January.
In this month's election New Jersey Democrats increased their already dominance in the state legislature. In the Senate it is now 23 - 17 for the Democrats, the party already has an overwhelming majority in the House.
Goldstein said in the new Senate "We'll be 19 Senators who are solid 'yes' votes or leans 'yes' votes, with our needing 21 votes to win. In the incoming Assembly - where vote counts in a larger body can vary more - we can project at least 39 solidly 'yes' votes or leans 'yes' votes, with our needing 41 votes to win."
"We put a ton of resources into the 2007 elections and it paid off. There will be no excuses to pass a marriage equality bill in 2008," Goldstein said.
On October 25, 2006, the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples must have the rights as opposite-sex married couples but the court left it to the legislature to decide whether that should be done through marriage or civil unions.
Lawmakers chose civil unions, and gay and lesbian couples married in areas where same-sex marriage is legal, were regarded as in a civil union in New Jersey. The law went into effect in February. (story)
But since then there has been a growing body of evidence that civil unions are not doing what the Supreme Court ordered.
A state commission set up by the legislature to monitor the civil union law has heard dozens of complaints from same-sex couples that companies are not providing them with health insurance that is available to married couples.

... so much for the "equality" of civil unions vs. marriage. When will this country learn that separate is never equal?

Its another one of those "save the children" slippery slope fallacies...

The slippery slope...
APA Homosexuality is "normal". They changed the name of the disordered trait to dyshomophilia.
Repeal of sodomy laws
Gays want to marry now.
?
I'm sorry, the slope has been slipping for a while now.

It would depend on what Constitution and Bill of Rights was being challenged wouldn't it?

In Massachusetts, the famous gay marriage court case was decided on an equal rights basis. The ruling said gays being married to each other could not be treated as separate but equal. Many of the gay activists thought the case would end in a Vermont like scenario...partnership rights/civil unions for gays and marriage rights for heterosexuals. The Court actually read the state Constitution and decided to use it as an enforcement tool. Imagine that.

Two people getting married to each other are married in the eyes of the State. A marriage certificate from the State is a civil union. But since the State calls it Marriage for one, it is Marriage for all. Pretty simple.

Why not have the State documents say Civil Union...for all?

Because certain religious bigots will not stand for that. So they get everyone all riled up and we end up in other people's bedrooms. Yech!

The Court also said the Constitution could be amended.

The article that started the thread:
The whole idea that people are using kids to make their point is old. Most everyone does it. Gays did it for the adoption issue.

News update: The children heterosexual couples threw away who then got adopted by loving gay couples are safe and sound and so far, pretty normal/well adjusted. They are in the loving arms of parents who happen to be gay.

I always wondered, if certain people are against LGBT people adopting children, why dont they adopt the children so there arent any for LGBT people to adopt.

Then the answer comes down to this: they are hypocrites.

The weirdest thing was recently there was an issue in this state over gay adoptions, yet I know for a fact gays have been foster parenting since at least the eighties.

There was an issue with it way back when Mike Dukakis was Governor. His religious faith (Greek Orthodoxy) got in the way of his reason. I was close to his Church. The sad part about that otherwise good man was he didn't see his own bigotry. There was nothing in his faith that would dictate his stance...it was his Church leadership. Even supposed liberals who profess carrying an aclu card can be bigoted and ignorant.

Gays foster and adopt and have now been married for I don't know how many years now...and the God of the angry haters has not seen fit to punish Massachusetts yet.

Is their god on vacation? Is he supportive of the gays? Is anyone really listening?

The end was NEVER near.

Yeah god was so much happier with David Duke. It's sad that preachers use natural disasters like they do. No wonder the bible belt is full of believers. They live in areas prone to regular occurrences of natural phenomena and they are taught that science is only another fairy tale book.
