I guess that defines freedom to many here at the DtT. I am very very certain that it is not the freedom that men and women who served this nation, stood for and died for. But this is a freedom that has evolved from the selfishness that lives in the moment without any concern for future generations.

You say one thing is your point and then you muddy the waters by bringing up what is acceptable in public.

Would the cause for equality be better served if the more flamboyant in these parades tone it down?

If that is your question then the answer is probably yes.

And freedom is not freedom if it is not enjoyed by all. (Up to the point of when it harms others.)

I like my nick. It sometimes helps me separate the wheat from the chaff just by seeing who takes advantage of the fact that it contains the word "moron".

Ohdear: You don't get to define what (legal) actions define freedom. Do you not see how it is antithetical to the concept of freedom for you to say that only "these" kind of acts of freedom are acceptable? Living in a "free society" (I'm not claiming that we do) means that people are going to do things that you don't like.

I'm not opposed to homosexuality but I do agree that Gay Pride parades can be silly and hurtful to the cause, in a pragmatic sense. I also think that these displays make perfect sense in a society that throws such negativity at homosexuality. It's a reaction. I know that in my town, gay pride parades have become much more 'family-centered' than in previous years. Of course, this leads to people claiming that they're only doing that to "convert" more people. Welcome to the lose-lose situation that is the vocal minority.
