Okay, that explains it. Now I understand. We have an amendment that bans state recognition of any same sex unions. I can see where his office might have needed clarification.
I think allowing this gentleman to get insurance is a no brainer. But I guess all rules need to be written rather than understood.

HIS job was to see that the guy was insured.

There is NO QUESTION about his being insured - the insurance company stated he had been insured the requisite length of time

this commissioner might have had a leg to stand on if he were to arbitrate whether the guy had been eligible for the partner benefit of insurance - but he wasn't. His SOLE responsibility was to see that the guy was previously insured.

Actually his job was to uphold state law and regulations. State law is not to recognize any same sex union. He was only doing his job under how he interpreted the law.

He interpreted the law which requires people being insured as contesting the validity of his being insured?

That's insane. Even if it WERE NOT valid, he WAS INSURED.

It was blatant discrimination - which is why he folded immediately before going to court.

This story is yet further proof of the need for Universal health care in the USA.

The current system is grossly inefficient and costs every person in the US, whether insured or not, a lot more than it needs to.
