At least until America drags itself into the second half of the 20th century and Hillary puts universal health care in place.
You mean until Hillary forces everyone to buy health insurance? Hillary care isn't your NHS you enjoyed across the pond, Gary. She's giving the insurance companies what any business would love; making it mandatory for everyone to become a customer.

That's true - but at least it's a start.

Eventually you yanks will wise up to the fact that you're being ripped off by health insurance companies on a colossal scale - and STILL not getting good coverage!

But it may take another 30 years

I'm perfectly happy with my health insurance coverage.

$5 copays on office visits and $5 copays on prescriptions. I've never been turned down for ANY treatment or ANY doctor.

I don't want anything to change - except that the poor can get covered reasonably.

You're overlooking all the other times you contribute to health insurance costs indirectly, which is almost every time you open your wallet (handbag in your case) swipe a card or write a cheque.

Car payments, groceries, airline tickets, they all include a percentage to cover health insurance.

Even Starbucks, who spend more money on health insurance than on coffee.

No matter what your political preferences it's just hugely inefficient. And there are still 47m UNinsured.

Does your insurance cover your partner, too, tristan?

actually, I'm on his insurance.

the premiums are cheaper than my own retirement health benefit package

here in CT our civil union gives a few of the rights of marriage

Excellent. I believe all New England states now have civil unions (except for MA, which has marriage). We do here in Maine. It's certainly a step in the right direction.

Oh oh Tris...guess what? We agree. I can have free insurance for my entire family with a few restrictions, but I choose to pay $415 a year for more freedom. I'm sorry for my selfishness, but I too am thoroughly happy with the coverage I have. I'm sure I'd probably think differently if I had gotten sick while in college instead of joining the armed forces.

I'm happy with my coverage.

Your boyfriend is a teacher in a public school?

In which case his health care, and yours, is being already funded by the hard pressed taxpayers of CT.

So basically your attitude is "I'm all right Jack so f*** the rest of you"?
