Does that mean I don't care if people die of liver cancer?

And if I dig deeper in my wallet for liver cancer, what about all the people that die of pancreatic cancer? And skin cancer? Do I not care about them?

People have limited time and resources.

The only thing that is preventing such a movement from starting is... someone to care enough about the issue to commit the time, energy and resources to start it and keep it going.
You can count me out. My attitude is too politically incorrect nowadays. I would advocate rounding up all the bullies in schools and beating the shit out of them.

Watch where you give your money. Very little (if any) really goes toward the purpose you intended. The United Way is the biggest scam in this country today - no matter how much coersion your employer puts on you to contribute.

I think most people don't give a fuck and don't want any part of it. We are a nation of the "dispossessed" after all. The prevailing attitude is "I have my own problems get out of my face about yours."

But just the opposite happened. HUGE news story.

We had 500 people making our point for us, instead of 250.

Greater publicity, greater dissemination of the message.

And if the message had been nulled, we wouldn't be sitting here talking about it, creating EVEN MORE awareness.
Yes we would. We talk about all things gay here. It's the biggest topic of conversation.

I was basically kicked out of school because they couldn't be bothered even giving these kids so much as a detention. I missed out on an education because of that, and it's something I will always be bitter about. Some time down the track I plan to sue the school, as they failed in their duty of care to me.

It might not seem that school kids have rights taken from them because they are gay, but in my experience, gay kids get treated worse than straight kids. You bully a straight kid and you get suspended. Bully a gay kid and the teachers will just stand there and let it happen.
The schools are allowed to ban kids from bringing same sex partners to their school formals/debs/prom nights. Apparently, kids are only allowed to bring their dates if they are of the opposite sex. This in itself is blatent discrimination, as the school is preventing these kids from being themselves, and would rather they hide away and never reveal their true self.

So there are many rights taken away from school kids, and the big one is the right to be protected.
The right to protection hasn't been taken away, it just wasn't enforced in your case, if what you say is true.

I don't believe that teachers ignore bullying of gay children on a widespread basis.

And I can understand why schools would discourage same sex partners to school functions for these young, confused little individuals.

You just took the time to read about it, both in the news stories I posted and here on this forum. And you probably wouldn't have even known about this issue if it weren't for the Day of Silence.

It means the message is spreading far and wide.

And THAT is a positive response.

Kids finding a bogus excuse to skip school or not to participate in classroom discussions is hardly a positive response.

How would you feel if I started a day of silence movement just for heterosexual kids who were bullied, specifically excluding children who claim to be "homosexual"?

we'll worry about that and how to deal with it when the day comes you can spend less than 12 hours of the day dreaming up new asinine ways to attract the attention of gay men and women on the internet - the attention that you crave so.

What would be even more impressive is when you post something "on topic" instead of "on poster".

Oh, it's true what I say, believe you me. Recently I was lucky enough to get an apology from one student who was my worst tormenter. She's a different person know and is sorry for what she did. I forgave her.

I am not saying that teachers ignore the bullying of gay kids on a widespread basis, but in some schools, they do.

I have no comment on your last statement, because I may offend.

Sampling of headlines today:

1.
Day of Silence peaceful at Desert Ridge High
12 News Phoenix - 54 minutes ago After a tumultuous month of disputes over a gay-straight alliance's observance of the Day of Silence, students at Gilbert Public Schools' Desert Ridge High had a peaceful observance Friday that was ensured by an increased presence of police officers.

2. 250 skip school, 275 join in Day of Silence
East Valley Tribune - Apr 25 12:34 PM About 250 Desert Ridge High School students didn’t go to school Friday — about a third of those students claiming they were ditching to protest Day of Silence, principal Dan Coombs said. VIDEO: Watch Tribune's Nicole Beyer report

3. National Day of Silence
Planet Out via Yahoo! News - 2 hours, 59 minutes ago SUMMARY: Hundreds of thousands of students will take part in today's national Day of Silence to combat bullying of LGBT students.

4. Almost one-third of students absent as supporters, opponents of Day of Silence air their views at Mt. Si High School
Seattle Times - Apr 25 11:37 AM Almost one-third of students absent as supporters, opponents of Day of Silence for gay and lesbian students' rights air their views at Mt. Si High School.

5. Anti-gay graffiti mars Day of Silence
The Charlotte Observer - Apr 25 10:02 AM Students across the Charlotte region are participating today in the national "Day of Silence" observation to express solidarity with gay and lesbian students who have been bullied and harassed. Charlotte-Mecklenburg school officials say the event is taking place without incident on most campuses, despite earlier talk of counter protests from students who feel they are being pressured to mute ...
What most shocks me about this is that students actually protested AGAINST the day? Do they mean to say that they believe it's okay to beat up gay kids? What sort of people are they? What sort of person thinks it's acceptable to beat someone up?
