That wasn't my point.

Good luck with that.

KEVIN Rudd has given his clearest signal yet he may block a move by the nation's capital to enshrine legally binding civil partnership agreements for gays and lesbians.
He already has blocked it. I heard today the ACT had to scrap it's plans for Civil Unions because the Federal Government didn't support it. I expected Rudd to do this - it's simply too soon after these new laws and rights we've been given.
There is nothing wrong with being grateful for what we do have, and trying the marriage thing a little later.

Poofter??? That got me got me going to google.

Gay driver must remove 'poofter' plates

By Alex Spillius in Washington
Last Updated: 2:26am GMT 05/11/2007

A gay Virginia man has been told to remove his car licence plates that read 'POOFTER' because authorities deem them offensive, although the word is rarely used in America.
David Phillips plans to challenge the order after using the personally-chosen plates for 11 years. He assumes someone complained to the state's driving office.
He told the Washington Post that no one had ever complained to him, because only Britons or those with British connections could understand its usage as slang for homosexual.
Mr Phillips first heard the word used by Boy George in a television interview in America and does not consider it pejorative. "It's just an amusing word that I self-identify with," he said.

It's a dead link found in google's cache. I think this is funny now that I know the word. LOL.

There is a much greated chance of gay marriage being legalised in Australia than in America. I can't see gay marriage ever being allowed in such a conservative country, where everyone is on their moral high horse.

Well, in the U.S. marriage is a state issue, not a federal one.

There is already one state that allows gay marriage, and four others that grants civil unions or domestic partnerships.

The way this will make its way to the federal level is that these states laws stipulate that civil unions and domestic partnerships MUST be given all the rights and responsibilities of marriage. However, there are many instances of it not being that way in reality. So, it's going to end up being a federal Supreme Court case because the civil union is a separate and unequal version of marriage.

But, it will have to make its way through a few more states before that happens.

Also, people that get married in one state are going to eventually move to another, and when that state won't recognize their marriage, it will be a federal case.

I'm sure that will eventually come under Constitutional challenge.
