You know those bloody Brits were into burning witches. We had a go of it in Salem, MA. too.

I think modern society is becoming more and more dispossessed as time goes by and just don't give a shit about gay or interracial marriages. There are far more pressing issues in most people's lives.

I would hope so - except for the lunatic fringe and wackjobs (like the ones who post thousands and thousands of posts about sex with animals and other species and childre, etc. etc. etc)

It's an important issue for me because it directly affects my life - but it's not THE MOST important issue as it is for some here

You see, I'm not concerned about a U.S. ban on interracial marriage because it was as localized as cannibalism. When you commit genocide and slavery, bans on interracial marriage are kinda minor. But aversion to homosexuality is still specieswide, not limited to a few places. There's a difference. Just as religious persecution looks the same as racism, but no one is born a Baptist.

sexism is species wide too, perhaps that makes it justified?

prejudice is prejudice regardless of the target. prejudice is species wide. the tendency to break people up into "us" and "them" and define "them" as of less worth is universal. but it does not mean it is right.

if ones prejudice is directed at women, baptists, gays, blacks, it makes no difference. such prejudice is equally irrational, and equally abhorrent.

Define the manifestations and we'll deal with those. "Sexism" is a wide ranging term.

Not really. It's okay to judge some things but not others. Maybe you need to be more specific. I'm judged as a homophobe even though all I think is that "marriage" should be reserved for man and woman. That doesn't sound like I'm afraid of any particular gay person. Sounds like quite a liberal and prejudiced use of a made up term.

And again, it depends on the type of prejudice and what you do with it. Some aspects of people are fine to be aware of. It just depends on how you act on those feelings.
